RF Communications Systems Engineer (BT-25004)

The RF Communications Systems Engineer will support the JETS II contract in Houston, Texas. \n
\n

RESPONSIBILITIES:\n\nServe as a RF Communications Systems Engineer for the communication and tracking sub-systems of the Gateway and Exploration programs, a critical integration effort of the NASA Program which will return to the Moon.\nWrite Radio Frequency communication subsystem level Interface Requirements Documents (IRD), Verification Requirements (VRs), Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for spacecrafts. Review IRDs, ICDs and component level requirements (Transponders, Transceivers, baseband processors).\nReview Link and network layer protocols implemented on communication systems based on CCSDS recommendations.\nDetermine the performance of Radio Frequency (RF) communication links and create link budgets using analytical methods, analysis and simulations.\nActively participate and contribute to Systems Requirements Reviews (SRR), Preliminary & Critical Design Reviews, and Technical Interchange Meetings.\nPerform Radio Frequency interference & compatibility analysis, Power Flux Density analysis, Spectral analysis for Space based communication systems.\nAssist and support NASA RF communication sub system manager with reviews, meetings and be the technical Point of Contact.\nRepresent JSC and interface with other NASA centers, federal agencies and commercial partners.\nPerform analysis using software such as Matlab, Simulink and Excel.\nOther duties as assigned. \n\n

\n\nMust be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.\nRequires a bachelor's degree in engineering.\nMust have 1+ years of recent and related experience.\nMust have completed college level RF Communications coursework.\nStrong analytical skills in RF communications.\nStrong knowledge of communication systems such as digital modulation, demodulation, encoding\/decoding, signal detection, data formatting and packetizing.\n\n
\n

DESIRED:\n\nA BS or a MS degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited engineering school.\nOn location position - situational telework only.\nExperience with NASA processes.\nKnowledge in antennas, RF propagation network layers.\nFamiliar with CCSDS communication standards.\nProgramming languages such as C\/C++ and Python.\n\n

WORK LOCATION: \n\nThis position is located onsite. \nThis position offers a 9\/80 schedule, every other Friday off.\nThis position may require some travel. \n\n
\n

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED:\n

DRUG AND ALCOHOL SCREENING REQUIRED:\n

STANDARD BASTION REQUIREMENTS:\n\nMust have experience with Microsoft Office Suite.\nAll of Bastion's employees must be team players. \nAble to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form, with internal and external customers.\nAble to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives.\nMust have a strong work ethic and must be safety culture oriented.\nMust be organized with good time management skills.\nGenerally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.\nWork may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). \nMay require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).\nRegular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.\nAbility to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.\n\n
