Successful candidates will take pride in playing an essential role in keeping Boise beautiful! Seasonal Trails Maintenance: + Maintains trails and recreation facilities, and enacts protection measures in the Boise Foothills. + Work is performed autonomously, under general supervision and direction. + Is open to all interested persons 19 years of age and older. + Works up to 40 hours per week for up to 9 months. + Is designated as At-Will. Essential Functions Performs maintenance to trails throughout the Ridge to Rivers trail system. Constructs trails open to foot, mountain bike, horse, and motorized users. Constructs and maintains post and rail and smooth wire fences. Provides information to the general public regarding trails and trail use while working in assigned areas. Requirements Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training Six months' experience performing general trail construction and maintenance, or similar landscaping or agricultural experience. Working knowledge of trail maintenance and construction techniques. Ability to operate ATV's and mountain bikes in steep mountainous terrain; utilize hand and power tools in a safe manner; walk long distances over uneven terrain while carrying tools and equipment; interact with the public and co-workers in a friendly and professional manner; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City employees, the general public and other organizations; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; maintain prompt and regular attendance; perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation. Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record. Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training Two years' experience building and maintaining trails. Licensing And Other Requirements Valid state-issued driver's license Special Requirements Applicants must be able to pass: City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation Driving Record Check Working Conditions The physical effort characteristics and working environment described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Physical Efforts While performing the duties of this job the employee is always lifting/carrying up to 75 pounds and frequently lifting/carrying up to 100 pounds. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.Additional physical efforts include: lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs. Working Environment The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, in wet and humid conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter. Employees are exposed to mechanical hazards. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to chemicals. This position works in outdoor conditions during the summer months along dry trails and may come in contact with dogs, spiders, and snakes. Smoky conditions 19-Hour Temporary All temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits. 4-Month Temporary All 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment. 8-Month Seasonal In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage. 9-Month Temporary In addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.
