Risk Adjustment Clinical Coding Reviewer

Evaluates medical records, identifying, collecting, assessing, monitoring and documenting coding information as it pertains to Medicare HCC and other risk-adjustment model diagnosis codes. In partnership with the Ambulatory Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist, this position will be responsible for providing risk adjustment education and training for healthcare provider professionals, serving as risk adjustment coding subject matter expert and assisting internal and external partners of Kootenai Care Network.

•    Verifies and ensures the accuracy, completeness, specificity, and appropriateness of risk adjustable diagnosis codes based on services rendered and in accordance with nationally recognized coding guidelines

•    Performs other related duties as assigned

•    Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field 

•    Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function

•    Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned

 

Requirements and Minimum Qualifications

•    Certification through AHIMA or AAPC; Outpatient Coding: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician, (CCS-P) required within 1 year of hire

•    Certification as Risk Adjustment Coder preferred

•    Minimum 2 years of experience in healthcare setting required 

•    Minimum 3 years of experience in coding and medical record chart review required 

•    HCC coding experience required or preferred

•    Experience with HCC (Hierarchical Condition Category) Risk Adjustment Model preferred

•    Background in supporting risk adjustment management activities preferred

•    HCC Medical record review processes preferred

•    Understanding of regulatory audits and processes preferred

•    Process improvement understanding

 

Working Conditions

•    Must be able to lift and move up to 35 lbs

•    Must be able to stoop or crouch

•    Must be able to push, pull, or transport heavy equipment

•    Must be able to reach arms above or below shoulder height

•    Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position

•    Typical equipment used in an office job
