Risk and Safety Specialist

The Risk and Safety Specialist role will support our Human Resources department and our employees. This role will assist in minimizing the risk of job-related accidents and workers’ compensation claims. The Risk and Safety Specialist will monitor operations to eliminate hazardous activities. This role will also develop policies to promote occupational health and safety awareness. Work will be focused on prevention and will require diligence and an analytical mindset as well as a keen eye for detail and a sensitivity for potential dangers. The goal is to support a healthy and safe workplace. This role will also manage the return to work programs and plans of employees out.

Duties & Responsibilities

Develop, implement and sustain safety and health, risk policies and plans for the company as a wholeIdentify accident root causes and safety and health risks; providing direction and guidance to minimize risks and causes. Gather and report analytical data and metrics for review to managementEnforce all safety and health policies and procedures including the company’s accident reporting processesLead, create and implement site emergency action plans and liaison with local first responders when neededDirect accident investigation proceduresKeep records of safety-related incidents and propose corrective actionsOrganize and manage OSHA reporting and other OSHA related matters; conducting OSHA training plans with employees and managersCollaborate with managers to monitor compliance and identify safety issuesIntervene in unsafe activities or operationsComplete periodic safety audits and after-action responses to the identified gapsAct as an on-site first responder who can provide basic first aid to injured personsAssist with the site emergency action plans and liaison with local first responders when neededUnderstand and demonstrate safe work practices at all times to ensure a safe work environmentComply with all company policies and proceduresComplete special projects and other duties as assigned by supervisorDuties and responsibilities are across all operations of Jacent; field, DCs, office, workers both on Jacent sites and remote

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Proven experience as safety coordinator or similar roleExperience in reporting and developing policiesExperience in implementing training programsExperience helping to improve safety cultureAbility to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time while meeting deadlinesInterpersonal skills, with the ability to establish effective professional relationships with employees and managersLeadership skills and the ability to motivate a team and provide feedback

Experience and Credentials

Bachelor's degree in health and safety or a related field preferredExperience with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)  Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentationUnderstanding of federal, state, and city safety requirements, including OSHA regulations and compliance
