The Risk Manager role forms a vital part in our vision to become the “world’s best pet care business”. You will play a pivotal role in promoting a positive and consistent risk culture and in doing so will safeguard the organisation by identifying, evaluating, and mitigating risks that could impact the company’s operations, assets and reputation. You will lead our risk programme, develop and implement robust risk management frameworks and ensure the business operates within its risk appetite whilst remaining compliant with all relevant legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.

Key Responsibilities

Risk Management Framework

Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s enterprise risk management (ERM) frameworkIdentify, assess, and prioritise risks across the business, including operational, financial, strategic, regulatory, and reputational risksDesign and implement risk mitigation strategies, controls, and action plans in collaboration with relevant stakeholdersYou will work with the Profit Protection, Internal Audit and Internal Controls Teams to drive positive change and embed risk management across the organisationSupport the business as we strengthen our internal controls framework (UK SOX style approach)

Risk Assessment and Monitoring

Represents the team in working groups, assessing the risk impact of new initiatives, influencing risk-based decisions, challenging control proposals, and making recommendations to approve or reject initiativesReview risk events to assess and challenge root cause, recurrent themes and remediation and recommend value-added changesMonitor and report on emerging risks, trends, and changes in the external environment that could impact the businessMaintain and regularly update the company’s risk register, ensuring all risks are appropriately recorded and addressed

Compliance, Governance and Business Continuity

Ensure the organisation complies with UK regulations, industry standards and internal policiesSupport the preparation for external audits and regulatory inspectionsTake ownership of the groups Business Continuity framework, plans and testing regimes

Reporting, Communication and Culture

Produce clear and concise risk management reports for senior leadership teams, including Internal Audit for discussion at the various committeesEnsure that all relevant parties are aware of their risk responsibilitiesAct as a key point of contact for governance and compliance, fostering a culture of accountability and transparencyProvide insights and recommendations to inform decision-making and support strategic objectivesComplete the rollout of our Risk Champion network and deliver training sessions and workshops to enhance risk awareness across the businessWork with all functional directors and/or heads to understand any significant shift in risk exposure for consideration for reporting and insurance

About You

Extensive knowledge of risks associated with a Retail environment.Self-motivated, driven and inquisitive with the ability to quickly establish credibility.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong analytical skills with a proven ability to identify potential control issues and process improvements.
