In this role, you will work with the Security, Regulatory, and Clinical Executive Team to take a proactive approach to ensure compliance.
Job Summary:
Identifies, analyzes, controls, and monitors risk events and risk management plans within the assigned ministry with the goal of minimizing exposure to the organization. Exposures include any event that could result in loss or liability, such as clinical/patient safety events, employee safety events, visitor safety, and other workplace hazards or threats. Interfaces and collaborates with organization’s team members to support health care and other business operations by identifying areas of risk using assessment tools and providing input and recommendations on the management of risk.Job Responsibilities and Requirements:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Reviews all event reports, conducts a risk analysis of any potential or actual significant event, and provides input, guidance and direction to patient safety staff, as appropriate and in accordance with the risk manager’s lens/scope of responsibility, in the management of such events.Reviews all complaints and grievances entered into the tracking database, conducts a risk analysis of any potential or actual significant complaint/grievance, and provides input, guidance and direction to patient safety staff, as appropriate and in accordance with the risk manager’s lens/scope of responsibility, in the management of such complaint/grievance.Interprets statistical and qualitative reports on risk management trends and patterns and communicates this information effectively to appropriate department leaders with recommendations for action. Conducts analysis activities on all events and data, including tracking, trending, and reporting of data.Conducts investigations of specific high-profile events as determined within the primary scope of responsibility of risk management (e.g. abuse and neglect cases). Coordinates and conducts risk assessments.Coordinates product recall activities via application and tracks for timely recall and alert action.Performs root cause analysis on matters with both significant potential litigation risk and significant potential legal liability. Provides support as requested to those performing root cause analysis on all other matters.As required, manages complex medical malpractice and other liability claims handling, including lawsuit management with outside defense counsel.Provides direction to clinical staff and leadership on issues related to professional liability and other risks. Develops and conducts educational programs to provide information on risk management and its components.In coordination with regional and system leadership, facilitates/supports implementation of SSM's patient safety program and initiatives and assists with coordination of education for staff and clinicians as needed. Authorizes compensation to patients in the form of reduction or elimination of costs owed to SSM for care.Collaborates with appropriate colleagues to align risk and safety processes across assigned entities. Is visible and travels across assigned region to support and advance ministry performance. Reports, communicates, collaborates and escalates issues to system, regional and ministry leadership in a timely fashion.Performs other duties as assigned.EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and educationEXPERIENCE
RN required, or with equivalent experience. Three years’ experiencePHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
