I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Utilizes the Nursing Process for the delivery and management of client’s care from Admission to Discharge, appropriate to the developmental age of the client population.
2. Performs client assessment /reassessment according to standard procedure.
3. Develops and coordinates with the interdisciplinary team on the individual plan of care including discharge planning.
4. Directs, supervises, coordinates and evaluates nursing care within the clinical setting.
5. Delegates appropriately to others in accordance with the job description and competency level.
6. Documents client care according to standard procedure.
7. Develops, implements/coordinates and documents education provided to client/family/significant other.
8. Ensures quality and continuity of care through collaboration with other healthcare providers from the interdisciplinary team.
9. Administers medications, performs treatments, therapies, and operates equipment according to policy and procedure. Assists licensed healthcare provider with treatments, procedures and special tests as required and directed.
10. Assumes responsibility for professional growth. Assists in education and development of staff.
11. Participates in the performance improvement initiatives and demonstrates the use of quality improvement in daily operations.
12. Maintains the highest standards of ethics and demonstrates professional attitude and conduct, while maintaining professional boundaries.
13. Stays current on, and abides by, all standards of nursing practices as recommended by the American Nurses Association and the policies and procedures of CHL and the individual clinical program policies.
Specialty Responsibilities:
Charge Nurse: as assigned by program leadership. When assigned charge duties you are expected to:
1. Maintain overall shift operation in a safe, efficient and effect manner in the absence of management.
2. Direct and supervise staff including all RNs, LPNs, Contingent workers and Direct Care Staff/ RCs to ensure the delivery of safe and effective patient care.
3. Report any urgent issues on the unit to the management team in a timely manner and utilize the administrator on call for any emergency, medical, and disciplinary situations that require further intervention.

Qualifications:
Required:
1. Valid and current RN license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
2. Satisfactory CORI background check and, if applicable, DCF/CPS (Department of Families Adam Walsh/Child Protective Services) background check.
3. BLS certification.

Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Thorough knowledge of the discipline of Nursing.
2. Commitment to providing safe and effective nursing care.
Preferred:
1. One (1) year of nursing experience.
2. Bilingual (Spanish/English) oral and written communication skills.
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:
Work is considered medium. May have to lift objects up to 25 pounds.
Work is indoors in a patient care setting.
