JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for assisting Providers by preparing patients for medical exam, assessment, and telephone triage. Ensures implementation and success of UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper goals, organizes, and directs the clinical environment, and coordinates teams to assure effective care is given to provide quality patient care in physician practices. The Registered Nurse serves as an integral part of the healthcare team at UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper by establishing an authentic personalized relationship with the patient and their chosen support system, collaborating with physicians and other team members to assess, plan, implement, delegate, and evaluate an individualized plan of care that promotes optimal health. The Registered Nurse utilizes best scientific evidence and compassion to assist the patient in navigating their health journey. The Registered Nurse accepts responsibility, authority, and accountability for management and provision of care in accordance with the current policies and procedures.

Patient Care: Identifies opportunities to improve patient care based on feedback from staff and customers.  

Interviews and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention.   Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.  Monitors quality of core process in department. 

Teamwork: Works within a team to achieve patient treatment goals. 

Shares and initiates regular and professional communication with co-workers.   Participates in regular staff meeting.   Collaborates with other departments or disciplines to achieve desired outcomes. 

Technical Competency: Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed.  

Obtains complete history and physical data on patients.   Reviews patient records.   Performs a complete physical exam and records findings.   Establishes presumptive diagnosis.   Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.   Synthesizes data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.    Provides care that is appropriate for specific age groups. 

The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required.

Experience: 3 years of related experience preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.

Licensure: Current RN license in applicable state required. If your RN nursing license has been inactive, retired or lapsed for five years or more and you have not been licensed in another state during the last five years, successful completion of a Board approved refresher course is required prior to reactivating or reinstating your license. To be considered for current licensure status, you must apply for reinstatement within one year of completing the refresher course.

Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Excellent human relation skills, possess effective oral and written communication skills, possess leadership and problem-solving skills, operate personal computer. Basic computer knowledge.

The job requires constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
