RN Ambulatory Surgery - Surgery Center

Founded in 1906, McLeod Health is a locally owned and managed, not for profit organization supported by the strength of more than 900 members on its medical staff and more than 2,900 licensed nurses. McLeod Health is also composed of approximately 15,000 team members and more than 90 physician practices throughout its 18-county service area. With seven hospitals, McLeod Health operates three Health and Fitness Centers, a Sports Medicine and Outpatient Rehabilitation Center, Hospice and Home Health Services. The system currently has 988 licensed beds, including Hospice and Behavioral Health. The hospitals within McLeod Health include: McLeod Regional Medical Center, McLeod Health Dillon, McLeod Health Loris, McLeod Health Seacoast, McLeod Health Cheraw, McLeod Health Clarendon and McLeod Behavioral Health.

3. Assesses needs of patients as assigned based on date collected through history, observation, physical examination and

analysis of diagnostic data.

4. Delegates, supervises, and evaluates the activities of other team members while simultaneously executing immediate

directives and interventions in urgent or emergent situations.

5. Plans individualized nursing care to meet the holistic age specific needs of patients.

6. Provides appropriate nursing interventions, consistent with the Plan of Care and standards of practice, incorporating the

Physician’s prescribed medical plans of care.

7. Using Service Excellence standards, completes verification of Safe Surgery Checklist

8. Fosters and environment that demonstrates caring, compassion, and respect for all patients, families, and visitors.

9. Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on

the appropriate forms.

10. Utilizes appropriate health and safety equipment to protect both patient and staff.

11. Uses standard precautions and appropriate personal protective equipment when working around or handling hazardous

substances, including blood or bodily fluids.

12. Utilizes standard work in caring for central lines, foley catheters, pressure ulcers, ventilators (if applicable to unit),

restraints and patients at risk for falls.

13. Prepares Operating Room, Recovery Room and/or receiving area for patient/procedure.

14. Position and prepare patient for procedure and/or diagnostic test.

15. Contributes to the daily efficient performance of the department, as charge nurse when assigned (Advanced

Resuscitative Certification appropriate to their patient population if serving in a Charge Nurse or PCS position).

16. Serves as the communication liaison to family and members of the operating team.

17. Contributes to the overall performance of the department through the precepting of novice employees.

18. Contributes to the department growth and performance through hospital-system initiatives cultivating nursing involved

Evidence Based Practices.

19. Demonstrates competency in, but not limited to, the following in the OR (refer to McLeod Health Nursing

Competencies A, B, and C):

· Following all new hire expectations for, but not limited to, the Operating Room.

· Following unit expectations around scheduling.

· Emergency Management

· Identifying resources, understanding the role of the resource(s), and the ability to contact the resource for needs

of the unit.

· Carrying out Physician’s Orders

· Utilizing the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) · Nursing Handoff in Care/Bedside Report · Completing Procedural Paperwork · Maintaining Patient Privacy with the Patient Record/Patient Information · Providing Patient Education · Utilizes Downtime Toolkit when applicable. · Completing Patient Admission(s), Discharge(s), and Transfer(s) in accordance to policies and procedures. · Reconciling and Administering Patient Medication. · Utilizing standard work for: Venipunctures, Blood Cultures, Blood Bank Bandings, and Capillary Collections. · Administering Blood and Blood products. · Performs Waived Testing. · Utilizing Improve the Process. · Applying and Documenting Patient Restraints and Seclusion in accordance to policy and procedure. · Utilizing and performing Code Management · Performing and documenting full systems assessments. · Utilizing Infection Control Precautions · Caring for patients with, but not limited to, the following unit specific asks, needs and/or conditions: Assesses needs of patients as assigned based on data collected through history, observation, physical examination and analysis of diagnostic data; Delegates, supervises, and evaluates the activities of other team members while simultaneously executing immediate directives and interventions in urgent or emergent situations; Completes verification of Safe Surgery checklist, Prepares Operating Room for patient and procedure; Positions and prepares the patient for the surgical procedure on the Operating Room table; Initiates and maintains the surgical count for the procedure; Serves as a communication liaison to family and members of the operating team; etc. · Performing Preventative care for Hospital Acquired Conditions, including but not limited to: Falls, CAUTI, and CLABSI. 20. Demonstrates continued professional growth through setting goals and participating in educational offerings. 21. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Job Requirements

Qualifications /Training:

· Previous experience in Operating Room desired.

 

Licenses/Certifications/Registrations/Education:

· Graduate from an accredited registered nursing program

· Must possess a valid SC license – RN, BLS
