Job Summary
Provides quality nursing care through professional practice and clinical competence in the Critical Care Unit by performing the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Administers prescribed medications and treatment to patients in accordance with Hospital policies.
• Provides constant monitoring and assessment of the patient, reporting changes to supervisor and physician when necessary.
• Explains procedures and treatment to patient and families to provide understanding and allay apprehension.
• Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocols.
• Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of that patient, in order to help him/her adjust to a new lifestyle.
• Consults with and keeps supervisor informed of patients' status and needs.
• Capable of assisting physician with unit-specific procedures.
• Communicates to the family appropriate information regarding the patient's condition.
• Works willingly, accepts assignments with a positive attitude, respects co-workers while acting as a team player.
• Attends 75% of unit staff meetings and in-services.
• Participates in opportunities that enhance personal and professional growth.
• Participates in department quality improvement activities.
• Attends all mandatory meetings and programs.
• Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.
• Complies with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, regulations, and Standards of Conduct relating to the position and agrees to report any suspected violations of law or Standards of Conduct.
• Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations and JCAHO standards.
• Maintains a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.
• Maintains the confidentiality of patient, resident, employee and organizational information.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
Associate's degree (A. A.) or graduate of school of nursing.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, patients, families and the general public.
Position requirments, certificates, Licenses, registrations
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
Currently licensed to practice nursing in the State of Iowa
BCLS prior to employment.
ACLS within 3 months of employment
PALS, TNCC certification, MOAB, and PAR class within one year of employment.
Med/Surg/Peds, ED experience and/or ICU/CCU experience preferred
