RN/Clinical Coordinator

Position Summary

The RN/Clinical Coordinator is a registered nurse with direct shift responsibility for the quality and continuity of patient care through leadership in the delivery of care and nursing practice within the clinical unit. The RN/Clinical Coordinator will assist the unit director by: participating in unit employee selection through interviewing, hiring, and onboarding process, evaluating personnel according to hospital, nursing, and unit philosophy and goal objectives, serving as a role model and resource person in the development of skills and capabilities for all unit staff, developing unit activities that support the elements of extending excellence, and actively participating in outstanding customer service by accepting responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. The RN/Clinical Coordinator will assist the director with the overall management of the unit through assessment, planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating all nursing, administrative, and related technical activities to ensure the quality care of all patients and their visitors. The RN/Clinical Coordinator will assist the director in ensuring all departmental activities are in compliance with standards established by The Joint Commission, federal and state regulatory agencies, hospital bylaws, departmental regulations, and organizational policies and procedures. The RN/Clinical Coordinator will assist the director in performance management, personnel management, fiscal responsibility and equity management, department specific staff and education development, patient experience and satisfaction, and cultivating partnerships with all members of the healthcare team through the patient's continuum of care. The RN/Clinical Coordinator must be a positive role model for management by demonstrating professional practice and behavior, being competent in all areas, and actively supporting the organizational mission, vision, and values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Supervises and coordinates the delivery of patient care by the nursing staff by assisting with hiring decisions, establishing professional licensure at hire, orienting new staff, making merit recommendations, developing policies and procedures, assuring that CPR and AED certification of all staff is current, scheduling and making the daily assessment of priorities and emergencies.

2.     Provides ongoing advice and consultation to the nursing staff about proper procedures, problem solving and patient safety as well as evaluating the quality and appropriateness of nursing care and documentation of care provided.

3.     Facilitates the team approach by recognizing each nurse as an important part of the Granville Health Care Team, serving as a liaison for the nursing staff by conducting appropriate meetings to communicate policy and planning decisions, operational requirements and related matters, and keeping the Nursing Directors and others updated on operational issues.

4.     Assists in preparing budgetary recommendations of medical supplies and treatment room charges by maintaining a biannual report for the Nursing Directors.

5.     Helps to assure excellent patient care for Granville Health patients by determining nursing staff strengths and weaknesses by performing periodic audits of nursing procedures and analyzing the data.

6.     Ensures that staff of Granville Health follow the Infection Control policy by making periodic quality assurance audits.

7.     Promotes quality patient care by overseeing that necessary equipment and supplies are available.

8.     Provides nursing triage, counsel, and care of patients who are ill, injured or experiencing alteration in the normal health process by gathering and evaluating the past and present health history, vital signs and the performing nursing assessment.

9.     Provides quality patient care by observing, monitoring, assessing, reporting, reporting and recording patient concerns, conditions and responses.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        10.  Prepare daily/weekly/monthly reports as directed by the department Directors.

11.  Provides education in health care and the prevention of illness to the patient and his or her family.

12.  Coordinates and assists in the delivery of a plan of health care with all members of the health team.

13.  Maintains competency and professional currency through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by the Chief Nursing Officer.

14.  Contributes to the successful operation of Granville Health by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Graduate from a Board approved nursing program with current licensure as a registered nurse in the state of North Carolina.

Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree preferred.

Knowledge of current trends and techniques along with two (2) years of experience in nursing appropriate to the practice setting.

Emphasis on strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to manage working relationships.

Pursues programs of continuing education/staff development consistent with the requirements of Granville Health System.

ICU & Med/Surg specific: Current BLS, PALS and ACLS training required. Possesses or be willing to obtain PALS training within 6 months of assuming position.

ER specific: Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, and NIHSS training required. Possesses or be willing to obtain TNCC and ENPC training within 6 months of assuming position. Interest in obtaining national certification (such as CEN, CCRN, and TCRN) with membership to Emergency Nurses' Association (ENA) encouraged but not required.
