RN Clinical Manager - Inpatient Rehab Unit
Job Description

The Clinical Nurse Manager, under the direction of the Program Director of the IRU, is responsible for maintaining effective and efficient department operations while complying with all state, federal, and local regulatory standards. The IRU Nurse Manager will work to optimize workflow and the delivery of safe, high quality, and cost effective patient care. The IRU Nurse Manager is responsible for the supervision, direction, and coordination of Registered Nurses, LPN’s, Nursing Assistants, and other clinical staff providing care at the IRU based on established clinical nursing practice standards.   

Education:

Associate’s Degree requiredBachelor’s or Master’s Degree, preferred

Certification/Exp:

Minimum of 2-5 years’ experience, acute inpatient rehabilitation preferredExperience in nursing leadership (manager, charge RN), preferredBLS requiredRN license required

General Responsibilities:

Performs all essential functions of an IRU bedside nurse – Delivers patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation as well as education and documentation.Functional Expertise – Extensive knowledge of field/profession. Serves as a professional resource and an advocate for nursing staff and the IRU when dealing with administration/physicians/other departments.Department Operations – Oversees daily clinical operations in pursuit of department objectives including taking responsibility for maintaining productivity expectations, IRU staffing patterns/coverage, and IRU documentation requirements.Staff Management – Identifies qualified candidates and performs hiring. Ensures IRU training and education is provided for all new hires and float staff. Pursues disciplinary action and termination decisions consistent with hospital policies and procedures.Case Management – Performs discharge planning duties including, but not limited to, next level of care needs, education and discussion with patients and family members, follow up phone calls, and participation in weekly team conferences. Ensure authorizations are current as required.Business Management – Assists in the completion and/or review of pre-admission assessments to meet IRU requirements and ensure all equipment, supplies are in place and appropriate for patient placement on the unit. Assists in the completion and/or review of the PPS process. Models and integrates core business values into daily decision-making that align with department, hospital, and company established goals.Development – Assists in the development of clinical programs, staff professional growth, and departmental opportunities, including the identification of department based issues/problems, proposing recommendations for change, and playing a strong role in their resolution when appropriate.Outcome Measures Commitment – Collaborates with the Program Director of the IRU and staff to improve HCAHPS Scores and national IRU outcome measures through the active awareness of current scores, creation of focused action plans, participation in service recovery, and rounding.Interpersonal Effectiveness – Applies effective communication techniques, consistently demonstrating a courteous, respectful, and professional manner that enables effective collaboration and problem-solving as part of a positive work climate with a focus on achieving department goals and outcomes.Leadership Skills – Exhibits skills that challenge, inspire, enable, develop, and encourage the team and those around them. Provides the tools, environment, and support for staff to effectively perform their job.  Acts as a role model by modeling desired attitude and behavior.  Represents the department serving on committees and special projects as expected and appropriate.
