RN - ED Observation Unit - Full Time, Days

Job Summary:

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Baptist Health Louisville team during a period of rapid expansion. The 30+ bed Observation Unit will function in support of both our Emergency Department and telemetry units by allowing us to observe low acuity patients for a slightly extended period of time in order to determine whether they need to be admitted to a telemetry unit. This will be a fast-paced, exciting work environment with terrific nurse to patient ratios that would be a great fit for nurses with a background in Telemetry, ED, ICU/CCU, and more.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

The following is a summary of the major functions of this position.  Registered nurses may perform other duties, not specified in this document and specific functions may change as professional practice and standards evolve.

1. Performs assessment/reassessment.

2. Develops plan of care utilizing appropriate evidence based standards of care.

3. Provides care consistent with policies, procedures, current evidence based professional standards of practice and Baptist Health Louisville’s nursing mission, vision, values and model of care.

4. Evaluates patient response to treatment.

5. Applies critical thinking, clinical reasoning, organizational and leadership skills.

Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required:

1. Active Kentucky License

2. BCLS required.

3. ACLS required.

4. BSN or Nursing Certification required except as noted:

Individuals hired as a Staff RN prior to October 1, 2013 are grandfathered and exempt from obtaining a BSN or Certification.Associate degreed New Graduate Nurses must obtain a BSN by agreeing to enroll in a program within 1 year of hire/transfer and complete the degree within 5 years of hire/transfer.RN’s with less than 5 years of experience as a nurse must enroll in a BSN program within 1 year of hire and complete the degree within 5 years of hire. RN’s with 5 years of experience or greater as a nurse must complete one of the following: Obtain a BSN by agreeing to enroll in a program within 1 year of hire and complete the degree within 5 years of hire OR obtain a Nursing Certification within one year of hire or as soon as eligible to sit for the certification.
