RN - Emergency Dept, per diem, Nazareth
**Employment Type:** Part time **Shift:** Shift_9 **Description:** The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the delivery of patient care. The professional nurse assumes the responsibility and accountability for the delegation of patient care to other members of the healthcare team. Complies with the requirements of the RN pool policy. THIS POSITION IS PER DIEM. The nursing staff within the ED shall be able to demonstrate the following nursing care: + Age specific tasks meeting criteria and performance standards and demonstration of knowledge and abilities to care for the neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient population. + Perform all aspects of the ED RN position in accordance with related departmental policy and procedures, standards and guidelines. + Provides patient / family with written instructions / information concerning disease, treatments, and medications at the time of discharge. + Interprets cardiac dysrhythmias appropriately and initiates action according to ACLS protocol. + Assist with the insertion of temporary pacemakers + Assist with endotracheal intubation and emergency airway management + Assist with treatments associated traumatic injuries, ie: lacerations, fractures, peritoneal lavage. + Displays knowledge related to modes for oxygen therapy, including mechanical ventilation. + Assist with insertion of chest tubes and correctly assembles and maintains collection system. + Demonstrates stabilization for cervical spine injuries through immobilization with sandbags, collars, Miami J collars, or cervical tongs for traction. + Applies / assist with the application of slings, immobilizers splints and casts for musculoskeletal injuries. + Inserts / assists with the insertion and maintenance of gastric tubes for lavage, suction or medication instillation / administration. + Provide airway assessment and maintains patency of artificial airway through suctioning as required. + Assist with Oral and nasopharayngeal airways, ETT, Crico Thyrothomy, Tracheostomy, POCT + Demonstrates appropriate waive testing specific to emergency department, ie: pregnancy UA, glucose testing. + Possesses knowledge in regards to police examination procedures for rape evaluations / examinations. + Assist with forensic evidence collection in sexual assault cases (MFH) + Demonstrates assessment and provides care for patients with burns and / or inhalation injuries + Demonstrates knowledge in the care of obstetrical patients. + Provides crisis intervention for psychiatric emergencies and patients with psychological stress disorders + Displays knowledge for assessment and care of drug / alcohol ingestion patients. + Notifies external agencies for reportable cases identified in patient assessments and care suspected child abuse – Child / Youth services, STD, TB , AIDS – Department of Health + Manage the complex care of critically ill patients. + Applies critical care theory in care of patients. + Calculates, titrates and administers medications, IV solutions, and skin testing, per policy. + Ventilator Management/Weaning. + VAP protocol - Sedation/analgesia + Initiates Stroke Alert on appropriate patients + Thrombolytic Therapy + Stroke protocol - DVT protocol + Initiates STEMI alert on appropriate patients - Chest pain protocol - Prepares patient for Cath Lab + Arterial Blood Gas sampling (Not at MFH) + Initiation and maintenance of invasive hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, PA lines, A-lines). + Rhythm and 12 lead ECG interpretation. + Cardiac Pacing (permanent, external, transvenous). + Defibrillation/cardioversion. + Functions as a member of the Code Blue Team and Rapid Response Team as per hospital policy. + Possess knowledge and skills necessary to assist the physician with the insertion of invasive tubes/line. + Moderate Sedation: (Called Procedural Sedation at MFH) + Recognizes appropriate dosage and proficient in administration of medication. + Monitors patient vital signs and maintains IV access as per policy. + Recognizes changes in patient’s condition and responds appropriately. + Documents medications, vital signs, patient response and special instructions. + Cognizant of the age-related need of the patient and Special patient care populations. **Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion** Trinity Health is one of the largest not-for-profit, Catholic healthcare systems in the nation.
