​About the unit 

The Family Birth Center is a 12 bed labor/delivery/recover/postpartum (LDRP) unit that provides care to mothers to labor, bond with their baby, and recover in the same room.   We are able to support the labor process of mothers at 35 weeks up to post dates.  We also have a level one nursery to support our well-born newborns.

Scope of work 

Delivers nursing care responsibly and accountably as described professionally by the American Nurses Association (ANA) and legally by the State of Michigan. Demonstrates competency through the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. This includes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Upholds the standards of professional performance as described by the ANA. This includes ethical practice, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice and research, quality of practice, professional practice evaluation, resource utilization and environmental health. Strives to achieve optimal outcomes.

Qualifications 

 

Associate's Degree Nursing is required 

Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing must be obtained within 5 years 

Registered Nurse (RN) from State of Michigan is required upon hire 

Basic Life Support (BLS) from AHA or ARC required within 90 Days 

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) from AHA required within 180 Days 

Fetal Heart Monitoring Certification required within 2 years 

Specialty Certification is preferred upon hire 

STABLE required within 180 Days
