Responsibilities

As our Labor & Delivery Nurse at St. John's, you’ll guide patients through the labor and childbirth process, focusing on the safety of the mother and baby, with kindness and compassion.

To thrive in this role, you’ll need to appreciate that routine is never routine. We have some wonderful days in this department and get to be with people through huge milestones in their lives. We also have some hard days and are with people as they grieve. You must be sensitive and understanding to different circumstances. Above all else, you must remain calm in an emergency. A patient’s status can change quickly and it’s never good for the patient or family to see the nurse in a panic. You’re calm. You’re in control. You’re handling the situation.

In keeping with the Dignity Health core values the Clinical Nurse II (CNII) in L&D is an experienced practitioner who demonstrates in-depth knowledge of antepartum intrapartum and postpartum nursing the implementation of patient care in those settings and the ability to practice independently. The CN II in L&D serves as a resource person preceptor and relief charge nurse. Under minimal supervision the CNII proficiently implements the nursing process for clients with complex diagnoses.


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Six (6) month current maternal-child nursing. When staffing can support a transition RN applicants without the requisite experience may be considered.

Current California Registered Nurse license.

Current BLS certification 

Current NRP certification

Current ACLS certification
