Responsibilities

As our surgical services nurse at St. John's, you will prepare patients for surgical procedures and assist in the operating room to ensure they receive excellent nursing when they are at their most vulnerable. Every day you will go over consent forms, answer questions about the procedure, do preoperative assessments, make sure the equipment is ready to go, and update family members on the surgery status during the operation. You will be expected to directly assist the surgeon during the actual surgery. To be successful in this role you must have the ability to maintain focus while multitasking, remain calm under pressure, and exercise good judgment in emergency situations. In keeping with the Dignity Health core values, the Clinical Nurse II (CNII) in OR is an experienced practitioner who demonstrates in-depth knowledge of periop care in the implementation of patient care in this setting, and the ability to practice independently. The CNII in OR serves as a resource person, preceptor, and relief charge nurse. Under minimal supervision, the CNII proficiently implements the nursing process for clients with complex diagnoses.

This position is represented by SEIU, Local 121RN, and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

CA Registered NurseBLSACLS certificationOne (1) year current OR experience is required. Two (2) years circulating experience in the Perioperative setting. Evidence of ongoing education in OR.

PreferredRequirements:

Spanish speaking experience Speciality certification in OR Nursing

Acts as a role model CNI's, and unlicensed personnel. Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team. Ability to achieve results for the organization with and through people, utilizing creative and innovative solutions, and effective problem-solving.
