The Preoperative Registered Nurse works as a professional practitioner employed by Amergis Healthcare Staffing and assumes the responsibility and accountability for the application of the nursing process and the delivery of patient care in the preoperative setting.  The Preoperative Registered Nurse demonstrates the ability to make clinical judgments in an effective and efficient manner with supervision. 

The Preoperative Registered Nurse demonstrates critical thinking and performance ability in the coordination of patient care and consistently performs according to nursing standards.  The Preoperative Registered Nurse is accountable in managing patient care and assisting others in the management of the preoperative patient.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care within the preoperative area Performs focused interview to identify specific patient needs Assess signs and symptoms indicating physiologic and psychosocial changes in the patient’s condition Collects, analyzes, and interprets data and information from health care members and documents actual and/or potential nursing diagnoses Documents the patient’s plan of care using identified nursing diagnoses, expected patient outcomes, and selected nursing interventions Provides preoperative instructions to patients  Assists physicians during surgeries by performing routine tasks such as preparing operating rooms, sterilizing equipment, and setting up surgical instruments Serves as a liaison between the patient, family, physician, and other health care providers Provides education and support to patients who are transitioning to home after a hospital stay Performs interventions according to identified priorities, plan of care, and the hospital policies and patient outcome standard Provides a safe, comfortable and therapeutic patient environment Initiates and evaluates patient and/or family education Revises the plan of care according to evaluation, changes in medical plan of care, and effective/ineffective nursing interventions Documents patient’s response to nursing and other interventions Uses clinical judgment in evaluation activities to meet patient care needs of an assigned floor/unit including establishing priorities Monitors safety and effectiveness of the environment and equipment   Performs other duties as assigned/necessary

Minimum Requirements:

One year of preoperative experience preferred Current Registered Nurse License for the state in which the nurse practices Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice  Participation and completion of Amergis Competency program when applicable Current CPR if applicable TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable  Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)  Must meet all federal, state and local requirements  Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site  Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements   Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required   Computer proficiency required  Must be at least 18 years of age
