Position Summary:

Responsible to maintain accreditation readiness and compliance within infection control standards, includes TJC, DOH, CMS and OSHA.Works collaboratively with physicians and staff throughout the organization to identify opportunities for improvement in infection control & prevention, formulate action plans and evaluate effectiveness.Prepare and report on infection control statistical data to appropriate committees, staff, and administration.Responsible for NHSN reporting and data analysis.Coordinate the infection control and prevention surveillance program designed to identify epidemiologically significant pathogens.Responsible for ensuring ongoing education and training programs in infection control and prevention.Responsible to work with departments to update their policies in the Infection Control.Responsible to act as consultant to individual departments and committees on matters pertaining to infection control.Ensure the reporting of reportable conditions and infections to the state health departments.Participate and work with outside agencies: Department of Health, Southwest Regional Health Care Coalition, Immunization Coalition, and NM APIC Chapter.  Responsible to investigate outbreaks and provide follow up direction for exposures to communicable diseases.Keep current on infection prevention trends and evidence-based practices, communicate as appropriate within the organization.Conduct risk assessment and develop an Infection Prevention Plan for the following year.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field required.RN licensure requiredCIC Board Certification required.  If not CIC Board Certified must become CIC Board Certified within 6 months of hire.3-5 years of experience in Infection Control & Prevention in an acute care setting preferred.Knowledgeable of NHSN reporting requirements and definitions.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, hospital staff, patients, and patients’ families.Demonstrated mastery of communication and leadership, as well as, demonstrated ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
