Job Description

SUMMARY Provides direct nursing care to the residents and to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. Such supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern the facility, and as may be required by the Nursing Home Director or Clinical Health Supervisor to ensure that the highest degree of care is maintained at all times.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Performs written assessments of resident's condition upon admission and periodically during the nursing process to ensure provision of quality care based on assessed needs of the resident and the established standards of care.

Administers drugs and other therapeutic and diagnostic measures to the residents in accordance with physician's orders and then observes and charts the effects of these measures.

Documents all nursing interventions on behalf of the resident to ensure communication of information to peers and physicians and to ensure that the necessary legal obligations have been met according to standard operating policies.

Provides guidance and direction to subordinate staff and gives assignments based on the capabilities of the staff.

Assists in the development of the discharge or transfer plan along with the physician, the resident's family and other resources to provide for continuity of care.

Collaborates with and assists physician in coordinating medical and nursing care plans, including reporting changes in resident's condition to physician, family and supervisor.

Assists with orientation, instruction, training, and supervision of subordinate personnel and peers.

Consults with and keeps supervisor informed of activities, needs, and problems in assigned work area.

Provides for resident's and employees safety and reports all conditions and/or equipment to the appropriate person.

Reviews resident care plan for appropriate resident goals, problems, approaches and revisions based on nursing needs.

Monitors care given by assigned personnel to ensure that all residents are treated fairly, and with kindness, dignity and respect.

Completes all other duties as assigned.

Complies with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, regulations, and Standards of Conduct relating to the position and agrees to report any suspected violations of law or Standards of Conduct.

Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations.

Attends all mandatory meetings and programs.

Maintains a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.

Maintains the confidentiality of patient, resident, employee and organizational information.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree (A. A.) or graduate school of nursing.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before customers, patients, families and employees of the organization.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

BCLS certification within three months of employment.

Graduate of accredited school for professional nursing.

Currently licensed as a professional nurse in the State of Iowa with an unencumbered, active license.
