About this unit

This unit is a 16-bed cardiovascular/cardiothoracic care unit. This unit’s primary specialty is post-open heart/CABG patients. Post-op CABG patients will recover in the ICU for 2-3 days. The patient population will include patients that have a cardiac procedure requiring ICU level care. Open-heart patients direct from the OR, vascular surgery, thoracic surgery, TAVR procedure, and STEMI intervention. Nurses will care for patients requiring ventilator support, special training on SWAN-GANZ catheters, vasopressors, inotrope drips, high alert drips, intra-aortic balloon pumps, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), IMPELLA devices, and chest tubes. Nurse to patient ratio 1:2 for regular ICU patients, high acute 1:1; there are times we may need you to be 1:3 depending on staffing needs and the acuity in the unit.

This RN Manager will lead a team of fifty plus professionals, including NPs, RNs, and NTs.


Scope of work

The Clinical Nurse Manager is an experienced leader responsible for managing assigned areas and services and supervising assigned patient care staff to promote the creation of a center of excellence for staff recruitment and retention and clinical and business outcomes. The Nurse Manager is responsible to ensure safe and effective delivery of patient care and clinical outcomes, compliance with regulatory, administrative, and clinical standards, and policies and procedures. The Nurse Manager serves as a chief retention and safety officer. He/she ensures that safety and quality standards are upheld by effective use of data and technology to make decisions and proactively mitigates unnecessary risks for his/her area of responsibility. The Nurse Manager creates and ensures a desirable, safe work environment that enables the organization to meet or exceed its mission and goals. He/she models the way to foster communication and collaboration with physicians, staff, patients, and other departments. Role specific competencies, responsibilities, roles, and functions are based on the Professional Practice Model. This position reports to the Director of Nursing or above.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Under general direction, maintains 24-hour responsibility and accountability for providing leadership and management of a designated patient care unit which promotes quality nursing care, cost effective use of resources and professional growth for nursing staff. Promotes a Patient Family Centered Care Culture.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) Required.Master's degree in nursing (MSN) Preferred.Required Completion of a Nurse Executive Council approved leadership development educational program.A minimum of 3 years of relevant clinical nursing experience Required.A minimum of one year of formal nursing leadership experience required for external applicants. Required.A minimum of 2 years demonstrated informal leadership experience required for internal applicants, may include but are not limited to: Charge Lead Nurse, Charge Nurse responsibilities, leadership on behalf of unit/site/system at Shared Governance Council Required.MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required.CRT-Specialty Certification within two years Required.AHA or ARC Basic Life Saving (BLS) Required.
