Job Description
Full-time relief or weekend package.
SUMMARY Provides quality nursing care through professional practice and clinical competence by performing the following duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Administers prescribed medications and treatment plans in accordance with Hospital policies.
Continually assesses patient condition, reporting significant changes to supervisor or physician when necessary.
Uses Meditech Information System to document and enter orders.
Provides quality nursing care through professional practice and clinical performance.
Explains procedures and treatments to patients and families to gain understanding and allay apprehension.
Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocols.
Initiates a patient education plan according to individualized patient needs.
Consults with and keeps Charge Nurse/Supervisor informed of status and needs of assigned patients.
Participates in department quality improvement activities.
Works willingly and accepts assignments as given.
Demonstrates professionalism and works cooperatively with others.
Attends 75% of unit staff meetings and in services.
Participates in opportunities that enhance personal and professional growth.
Capable of assisting physician with special unit procedures.
Completes all other duties as assigned.
Complies with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, regulations, and Standards of Conduct relating to the position and agrees to report any suspected violations of law or Standards of Conduct.
Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations.
Attends all mandatory meetings and programs.
Maintains a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.
Maintains the confidentiality of patient, resident, employee and organizational information.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree (A. A.) or graduate of a school of nursing.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before customers, patients, families and employees of the organization.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Graduate of accredited School of Nursing.
Currently licensed to practice professional nursing in the State of Iowa.
ACLS certified within one year of employment.
BCLS certification required upon hire.
Prior Med/Surg/Peds experience preferred.
