RN - NICU Project Coordinator

+ GENERAL SUMMARY
+ The RN – Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) Project Coordinator is responsible for the design, coordination, evaluation and/or implementation of programs related to the patient care process to facilitate the improvement of quality medical and nursing clinical quality outcomes. This position includes the identification of unit, staff, and Advanced practice providers (APP) needs, the development of related performance measures and statistical analysis related to project coordination. Will collect, analyze, and trend project and outcome data to promote quality care in the NICU, including but not limited to Vermont Oxford comparison data, Small Baby Unit, Chronic Lung disease, Neurodevelopmental care, Trauma Informed care, and Neonatal Follow-up outcomes. This position will utilize these resources to initiate interdisciplinary neonatal research and/or quality improvement projects within the NICU and publish and/or present outcomes. Reports to department leadership.
+ ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Demonstrates appropriate use of the nursing process and unit specific competencies.
+ Provides age-appropriate care to the ages of patients served.
+ Analyzes outcome data on an ongoing basis as it relates to national benchmarks (Vermont Oxford Network - VON) to identify areas for quality and performance improvement.
+ Scans the environment to identify internal and external opportunities to promote positive change, learning, professional growth and competence and optimal patient care throughout the NICU and Neonatal Follow-up Clinic.
+ Utilizes evidence-based literature to identify areas of clinical need.
+ Acts as a change agent to lead, facilitate, and support the improvement of clinical quality outcomes and patient safety of NICU patients.
+ Acts as a liaison for scientific inquiry.
+ Works with an interdisciplinary team to identify gaps in processes and knowledge to facilitate and implement changes in practice to improve patient and family outcomes.
+ Collects and analyzes relevant clinical and laboratory data for submission to assigned project sponsor. Will collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to submit for Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval and submit projects for publication or presentation.
+ Promotes, implements, and measures outcomes related to the use of Trauma Informed Care to improve staff satisfaction and patient neurodevelopmental outcomes.
+ Will follow patient outcomes through their neonatal continuum, beginning with admission to the NICU and ending with graduation from the Neonatal Follow-up Clinic.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
+ LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
+ Required Licenses and/or Certifications
+ Registered Nursing License in the State of Virginia or Registered Nurse holding a valid Compact State license required at time of hire.
+ Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training required at time of hire or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.
+ Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NPR) training required at time of hire or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
+ Preferred Licenses and/or Certifications
+ None preferred.
+ MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
+ Required Education and Experience
+ Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or current enrollment in Doctoral Program at of hire is required.
+ Three years of nursing clinical experience required.
+ Two or more years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience required.
+ At time of hire, a record of completion and/or enrollment for all education, licenses, training and/or certifications is required.
+ Continuous re-certification and/or maintenance of state licensures, certifications, educational and application requirements is required during employment.
+ Preferred Education and Experience
+ Project coordination experience preferred.
+ Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Ability to be trained in, comprehend, apply Infection Control, Performance Improvement, clinical methods, and clinical research methods pertinent to assigned project(s).
+ Proficiency and technical aptitude with the use of Adobe Acrobat and MS Office products, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word.
+ Critical thinking, analytical and research knowledge acquired through advanced education and work experience.
+ Demonstrated ability to manage multiple major assignments simultaneously to completion.
+ Highly motivated, enthusiastic team player who takes initiative.
+ Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
+ Excellent time management skills, able to shift priorities and able to work independently and problem solve in a fast paced, fluid environment.
+ Possesses strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills as well as, the ability to interact with and build collegial relationships with diverse individuals.
+ Has a level of independence and assertiveness to assume leadership role in the project and able to function as part of a team.
+ Ability to follow Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) policies and procedures and maintain confidentiality of all facility and facility-related (patients/families) information.
+ WORKING CONDITIONS
+ Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
