Registered Nurse (RN) Nightingale – Float Pool

The purpose of this position is to harness the skills of an experienced RN Hospital who recently retired but has a desire to leverage their extensive knowledge, while supporting the nursing care team by alleviating administrative task-based responsibilities to enhance patient care delivery. The RN will provide direct nursing care in accordance with established healthcare organization policies, procedures, and protocol in numerous units, departments and/or locations. 


A caregiver in this position works varying shifts from 11:00am – 7:30pm.  


A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Provide direct nursing care. 

Provide coaching, teaching, and educational material as appropriate. 

Assess and coordinate patients’ admission planning, discharge planning and educational needs. 

Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.  

Evaluate, update and revise plans of care.  

Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.  


Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.  

Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).  

Three years of experience in an RN Hospital position at the Cleveland Clinic immediately prior to retirement. 

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA). 


Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN).

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand and walk for periods of  time.Ability to sit at a computerized workstation for extended periods.May require full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.Possible exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.Medium Work – May include exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
