The Orthopedic Registered Nurse focuses on caring for patients with musculoskeletal diseases and disorders.  These orthopedic issues include conditions like arthritis, bone fractures, broken bones, joint replacements, genetic malformations, arthritis, and osteoporosis.  The Orthopedic Registered Nurse is knowledgeable with traction, casting, mobility devices, and pain management.  The Orthopedic Registered Nurse will assist physicians with preparation for procedures, surgery and assist patients with their postoperative recovery.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care Performs focused interviews to identify specific patients’ needs Assesses signs and symptoms indicating physiologic and psychosocial changes in the patient’s condition Collects, analyzes, and interprets data and information from health care members and documents actual and/or potential nursing diagnoses Documents the patient’s plan of care using identified nursing diagnoses, expected patient outcomes, and selected nursing interventions Identifies and prioritizes actions based upon patient care requirements Provides a safe, comfortable and therapeutic patient environment. Initiates and evaluates patient and/or family education Revises the plan of care according to evaluation, changes in medical plan of care, and effective/ineffective nursing interventions Documents patient’s response to nursing and other interventions Monitors the safety and effectiveness of the environment and equipment Monitors client vital signs.  Reports any abnormal vital signs to the healthcare provider and proceeds with any orders, protocols, or PRN medications accordingly Provides head to toe assessments of patients and provides relevant data to your supervising health care provider Collects/Prepares blood, urine, tissue, and other client samples to send for laboratory analysis Provides dressing changes and assesses the patient and wound for signs and symptoms of infection Inserts IVs and administers pain medications by the appropriate route Reposition patients safely according to their mobility and surgical restrictions Performs other duties as assigned/necessary

Minimum Requirements:

One (1) year of nursing experience preferred in an orthopedic unit Current Registered Nurse License for the state in which the nurse practices Orthopedic Nurse Certification (ONC) preferred Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice  Participation and completion of Amergis’ Competency program when applicable Current CPR if applicable TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable  Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)  Must meet all federal, state and local requirements  Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site  Understands patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements   Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required   Computer proficiency required  Must be at least 18 years of age
