The FMC Trauma Process Improvement Nurse will represent the NAH trauma program and will build and strengthen relationships with state and regional agencies and medical facilities involved in the care of the trauma patient. Evaluates the care of the trauma patient via chart and data review, and acts as liaison between Trauma Services and other departments within NAH such as ED, ICU, STICU, OR, and Pediatrics. Provides bidirectional communication, as well as loop closure on clinical, communication, or relationship issues by attending department, agency, and facility meetings and addressing specific problems as they are identified. Responsible for implementing the FMC Trauma PI Plan and following up on PI issues and documenting all loop closure in the registry. The PI nurse will also be responsible for writing and interpreting registry and quality reports, identifying trends, developing solutions to address problems with the quality of care.
ResponsibilitiesQuality Assurance/Process Improvement
*Performs chart review, participates in and evaluates trauma team performance, M&M case review, system and regional loop closure.
*Assess clinical care of trauma patients and provide real-time feedback to care providers and timely assessment of system issues to the Trauma Program Manager.
* Works collaboratively with other departments to ensure proper event assessment, process improvement, and loop closure, and documents and evaluates the process.
*Serves as Liaison with Trauma staff, Trauma NP's, Clinical staff, and Providers.
*Together with Trauma Program Manager, will develop and implement interventions that are effective and measurable.
*Analyze state and national benchmark data in order to identify specific clinical opportunities for improvement.
*Collaborate with internal and external resources to perform QA, loop closure, and clinical education.
* Integrates with hospital quality department by sharing data, participating in quality initiatives and ensures opportunities for confidential provider peer review and nursing case reviews.
* Maintains high visibility in the hospital, providing staff opportunity to interact with trauma during staff regular hours.
Research
* Assess the quality of the care provided, develop, implement, and assess loop closure and present data and findings as needed.
* Support clinical, epidemiological, and injury prevention research.
* Participate in data abstraction and evaluation to assist with meeting State and American College of Surgeons trauma research requirements.
Education
*Remains a clinical expert in the care of the trauma patient and acts as resource to nurses caring for trauma patients as well as agencies in the Northern Arizona Region.
* Assists Trauma Department and Trauma Medical Director with integrating evidence-based practices and current, consistent guidelines of care.
* Provides trauma education to NAH departments as needed to improve the care of patients and to meet trauma center education requirements.
* Participates in teaching ATCN or TNCC courses at least 2 times/year.
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.
* If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.
QualificationsEducation
RNs hired on or after 7/1/2016: Must graduate from a BSN program within 6 years of hire into an RN position.
Existing Staff RNs: RNs hired before 7/1/2016 are not mandated to have a BSN, but are encouraged to pursue a BSN degree.

Experience
Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience-Required
Previous experience in trauma administration or quality improvement-Preferred
Previous experience teaching-Preferred
Experience in multiple areas of nursing- Preferred
Experience with data mining and analysis- Preferred
