SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The RN Imaging Navigator provides leadership and clinical expertise for those patients undergoing breast imaging services. The RN Imaging Navigator is responsible for providing education regarding current guidelines for breast imaging, breast self-exam, and treatment of malignant and benign breast disorders.
The RN Imaging Navigator will assist in daily operations, provide clinical oversight of the daily schedule and assist with interventional procedures. The RN Imaging Navigator oversees and coordinates interdisciplinary care of mammography patients with the technologists and radiologists. The role is intended to expedite diagnostic process and improve throughput. A primary function is to establish and maintain positive communication with patients, technologists and physicians.
The RN Imaging Navigator acts as a strong patient advocate to ensure quality care and functions as a liaison between patients and the health care team.
The RN Imaging Navigator assumes responsibility for coordinating available resources to assure a high degree of safe, timely, and appropriate diagnostic care for patients whom they encounter. The RN Imaging Navigator reports to the manager of the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center.
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION:
Current RN license in State of Ohio required.
BSN or Bachelor’s degree in a health related field required.
Current CPR certification is required.
Radiology/ Outpatient experience preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 3 years of experience in a radiology or outpatient setting preferred.
Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and continuous learning.
Demonstrated ability to function successfully in a self-directed manner.
Demonstrated general computer proficiency, report generation, form design and documented editing abilities.
Knowledge of or willingness to learn national standards and current recommendations for breast imaging and benign/malignant breast disease.

Supervision:
Responsible for the design, implementation, and management of a system for organizing, planning and controlling work flow.
Organizes multiple projects.
Clarify, strengthen, and revise nursing practice as it pertains to new approaches relevant to clinical care.
Responsible for continuously seeking opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness for the care of breast imaging patients while ensuring the mission and values are incorporated into the daily work performance and relationships
Stewardship:
Maintain accountability and ensure good stewardship and utilization of resources to promote research, education, and quality care of breast imaging patients.
Develop action plan for indicators that fall below established benchmarks.
Collaborates with physicians and other healthcare team members to ensure patients move effectively from one access point to another.
Program growth and development:
Expand knowledge base and remain up to date on recent research results related to breast imaging and be able to incorporate that evidenced based research into clinical practice.
Participate in appropriate committees, task forces, and work groups
Develops and maintains systems to track diagnostic turnaround time, monitors results, and reports these to the JACBCC Operational Committee.
Coordinates with referring physicians to provide information regarding available services within Mercy Health to maintain a positive working relationship and strong referral base.
Serves as a strong patient advocate for breast imaging patients along the continuum of diagnostic care and follow up.
Serves as a vital link between patients, radiology technologists and radiologists.
Annually attends all mandatory education sessions.
