The Special Care Unit (SCU) at St. Francis is an eight-bed unit that cares for unstable patients that require elevated monitoring and complex nursing care. The SCU is a place where you can grow your knowledge and skills caring for complex medical and surgical patients. The SCU at St. Francis care for patients who require supportive care such as mechanical ventilation, vasoactive drips, increased cardiac monitoring, invasive lines, complex wounds, and psychiatric emergencies. The SCU is an excellent place to learn and grow your critical thinking skills and expand your nursing career.Key Position Details:
Tier 1: 1-year recent ICU experience required.
Tier 2: 1-year recent critical care step down or emergency department experience required.
Tier 3: 3-year recent medical/surgical experience required.

Nursing is the diagnosis and treatment of human response to actual or potential health problems. This includes establishing an intentional therapeutic relationship between a registered nurse and a patient and family. As a leader and the integrator of care, the professional nurse has the responsibility, authority, and accountability for planning, coordinating and evaluating the patient’s care needs.
Provides care in Special Care Units and Intermediate Care areas specialize in caring for patients requiring intermediate care for their illness or injury.
Principle Responsibilities
◦ Demonstrates ability to coordinate, delegate, and direct unit operation, collaborates effectively with unit staff, leadership and other disciplines.Preceptor (only when acting in this role).
◦ Demonstrates ability to identify the orientee's learning needs, plans appropriate learning experiences and demonstrates ability to validate clinical competence of orientee.Other duties as assigned.

Licenses/Certifications
◦ Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
◦ Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross
◦ Allina in-house BLS training (within 30 days of hire)ACLS/BLS Tier 2-Advanced Cardiac Life Support - Multisource requiredACLS/BLS Tier 3 - Allina Health preferred will be eventually required at most sites
