Job SummaryUnder the supervision of the Nurse Manager, Heart Catheterization Laboratory, the Cardiac Catheterization Specialist is responsible for coordinating, providing and/or assisting with tests and procedures done to aid with the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease.

                         

Job DetailsCoordinates patient transfers with Heart Center Coordinator, referring physicians and other institutions, for Cath Lab procedures.Coordinates and structures schedules between CCU, Cardiology units and Surgical Services.Evaluates staffing requirements based upon volume and complexity of procedures.Provides patient care during procedures such as catheterizations, pacemaker insertions, angioplasties and myocardial biopsies, athrectomy procedures, electrophysiology studies.Records and monitors pressures and other vital signs during procedures.Monitors patients in holding area after procedures until stabilized.Performs interpretations of patient clinical information and records physiological data.Prepares rooms and equipment for procedures to be done.Instructs patients, families and employees about laboratory procedures.Maintains and updates patient records regularly.Supervises departmental work related to patient care.Takes precautions to ensure patient and employee safety.Participates in community outreach events sponsored by AGMC/HVC.Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure. Maintains required CPR (BLS & ACLS).Follows hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.Remains flexible to work in and cross train between other areas in the Heart and Vascular Center.Supports and participates in community wellness programs.Serves as preceptor for university students in nursing and/or other health sciences.Other duties as assigned


Education:

Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred.


Certifications:

Registered Nurse with license to practice in the State of Ohio. Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).


Complexity of Work:

Maintains competencies specific to patient population served.Excellent communication skills required. Ability to coordinate activities between diverse groups.


Work Experience:

Three years nursing experience in critical care/cardiology required. Demonstrated expertise in arrhythmia interpretation.


Physical Requirements:

Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.Requires some exposure to communicable disease or bodily fluids.Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
