RN-Staff Nurse Neurology

Summary\:

The RN-Staff/Clinical Nurse, in the Lewis Katz School of Medicine’s Department of Neurology, will assist in delivering high-quality, efficient medical care to an adult patient population in the ALS-Neuromuscular Program in an outpatient setting. The incumbent will be responsible for day-to-day activities surrounding clinical research studies and ensure compliance with federal, state and university regulations.

 

Essential Functions\:

Responsibilities include\: providing and/or coordinating timely direct and indirect patient care services in a multidisciplinary setting; conducting comprehensive nursing assessments; obtaining patient history and vital signs; administering injections, blood draws, IVs and medications; maintaining records of vital statistics, and other pertinent patient data in the EMR system; appropriately fielding/triaging patient telephone calls regarding medication changes, clinical status, prescription renewals, changes in condition etc.; providing individual assistance to patients, families and caregivers to help identify and overcome barriers which may hinder quality medical patient care; educating and counseling patients and families; keeping assigned patient logs up to date including infusions; and obtaining required pre-cert or prior authorization to assure the timely approvals of patients complex treatments and drugs. In addition, the incumbent will coordinate with the RN-Clinical Research Nurse to facilitate the recruitment, screening and enrollment of patients for clinical trials. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience\:

Professional licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of PA.

 

Required Skills and Abilities\:

*Demonstrated a high degree of professionalism and nursing competence.
*Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team. 
*Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
*Demonstrated ability to use an electronic medical record system.
*Proven organizational and time management skills with strong attention to detail.
*Ability to operate all standard office equipment and software including MS Office. 

Preferred\:
*Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
*Experience working with patients with neurological or related disorders.

This position requires a background check.

This position requires Child Abuse Certifications prior to the commencement of service.
