**_Trauma Performance Improvement Supervisor_**

**Primary Function/General Purpose of Position**
The Trauma Performance Improvement Supervisor (TPIS) is responsible for coordinating, managing, and developing the Trauma Performance Improvement Program and developing and implementing mechanisms to incorporate outcome findings into standards of practice. The TPIS performs quality assessments and performance improvement reviews for the Trauma Program and other committees consistent with approved performance improvement plans and in accordance with the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Trauma Center verification criteria.
**Essential Job Functions**
+ Coordinates Trauma services patient safety and Trauma program information and education in collaboration with the Injury Prevention Coordinator.
+ Evaluates patient response and outcome to determine effectiveness of treatments and modify as necessary to achieve identified patient goals.
+ Works with Registrars to ensure that data abstraction points are up to date in accordance with the National Trauma Data Standard and the Ohio State Trauma Registry.
+ Participates on quality improvement teams and committees by managing clinical data and employing evidence-based solutions and maintains documentation for and in accordance with accrediting and regulatory agencies for areas of responsibility (e.g. Joint Commission, American College of Surgeons).
+ Communicates with coroner’s office for autopsies related to trauma deaths to include autopsies as part of death review and performance improvement.
+ Serves as an alternate to the monthly county Emergency Medical Services (EMS) association meetings and assists with coordination of education and outreach to pre-hospital providers.
+ Analyzes, prepares, and presents data for the monthly Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety (TPIPS) Trauma Committee meetings.
+ Utilizes data from the Trauma Registry and Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) to drive performance improvement projects and evidence-based practice change.
+ Assists the Trauma Program with data collection and data entry, including chart abstraction and analysis of trends using statistical quality tools in order that performance opportunities and improvements can be identified and implemented to improve patient outcomes.
+ Assists Trauma leadership in identification of problem trends, assists with the analysis and completion of activities, and creation of action plans for resolution.
+ Provides information to Trauma leadership and other quality improvement teams and committees for concurrent and retrospective quality assessment and improvement reviews.
+ Demonstrates knowledge and ability in trauma registry methodology, case abstraction, data entry, coding and simple ad hoc reporting.

**Licensing/Certification**
Current RN license in state they are working or covered by compact (required)
BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (preferred)
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) (preferred)
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) Instructor (preferred)
Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Coordinator (preferred)
**Education**
Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) (required)
Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) or related field (preferred)
**Work Experience**
3 years of experience in hospital acute care (required)
Experience in Emergency Department or ICU (preferred)
Experience with trauma registry (preferred)
