Overview Superior Air-Ground Ambulance Service, Inc. is the largest independent, locally owned and operated Emergency Medical Service provider in Northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. We provide wheelchair transportation, Basic Life Support, Advanced Life Support, and Critical Care Ground Transportation, as well as Critical Care Rotary Air Transportation. Under the general supervision of the Director of Fleet Services, the Road Mechanic is responsible for the general maintenance and repair of all Superior Ambulance vehicles. The Road Mechanic will be working in a fast-paced, high volume private fleet. This mixed fleet includes various makes and models of vehicles. The primary objective of the Road Mechanic will be to eliminate vehicles being towed from outside locations to Elmhurst shop. The road mechanic must display a good attitude and have the ability to work with little supervision. The position must also have the ability to troubleshoot basic mechanical problems and have a desire to learn. Paperwork completion is a foremost for Superior Ambulance. The road mechanic must be organized, and safe working habits are a must. Responsibilities Jumpstart vehicles Replacing batteries Troubleshooting/repairing coolant leaks Troubleshooting oil leaks Troubleshoot no heat issues front or rear Replacing/repairing flat tires Replacing headlights, brake lights bulbs, lights, or lenses on vehicles. Picking up/dropping off vehicles Troubleshooting repairing sliding doors which are off track General door latch repair and replacements General wheelchair lift, repair/maintenance Ability to repair oxygen leaks (hoses, gauges, and regulators) Vehicle lockout Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Basic mechanical ability 2 years shop experience (road experience preferred) Physical Requirements: Occasionally: kneeling, stooping, stretching, bending, leaning; must be able to lift to 75 pounds. Frequently: hearing/listening, clear speech, reaching, touching, typing Prompt and regular attendance at work. Ability to perform visual inspections. Work Environment: Works outdoors and indoors with occasional exposure to hazardous conditions and to blood/body fluids, fumes/odors, extended day, and temperature changes. Frequently works with others, face-to-face contact with others with exposure to noise, mechanical equipment, and electrical equipment.
