Co-ops are a paid six-month month work and learning opportunity for college students to work on a specific project within a designated team applying their education and use their voice to make recommendations to enhance the Bank. Co-ops will work with leaders on important work and initiatives to advance both the student and the Bank. Co-ops will perform work duties and responsibilities in addition to the project to apply their classroom knowledge to a real work assignment to enhance their professional credential, prepare individuals to successfully transition to the workforce and jump start their career. PROJECT: Project Management Key Performance Indexes
Bangor Savings Bank’s Project Management Office (“PMO”) has an opportunity to help define and create key performance indexes using MS Planner and Power BI as the data source and report writer. The successful candidate will work closely with the director of the PMO to establish what performance measurements are important to the department and key leadership. Once identified, visualizations will be created for bank leadership consumption and feedback. The PMO is looking for a candidate who will be comfortable leading the report generation assignment including senior leader interviews, working closely with other IT departments to understand the data sources, and using a new report writing tool. Additionally, the PMO will engage the candidate in a review of the department’s policies and framework and will solicit input for revisions and updates in an effort to modernize our methodologies, with a focus on more closely aligning with PMBOK.
In addition to KPI tracking and illustration, the candidate will be assigned real projects that reflect real world project management experiences. Working alongside the PMO director and staff, the candidate will apply their knowledge and skills and lead a work effort from start to completion. This will include understanding the scope, tasks, and timeline and successfully executing deliverables. Project complexity is commensurate with experience. At the end of the engagement, the candidate will be able to understand and apply the framework of project management.
PROJECT: Strategic Initiatives - Responsible AI Governance Framework
As Bangor Savings Bank embarks on its AI journey, having practices and elements in place to ensure responsible and ethical use of these tools is imperative. The scope of this project will be to create a framework and set recommendations for responsible AI practices and may use existing AI projects as a case study or test. This includes but is not limited to: external best practice research, internal BSB discovery of current practices, gap assessment, recommendations. Once recommendations are delivered, reviewed, and prioritized, the Co-Op may begin creation or execution of high priority recommendations, such as testing RAI practices or drafting of RAI guidelines. Deliverables:
1. Needs Assessment and recommendations of RAI practices to implement to support AI journey and projects
2. Begin creation of high priority elements of RAI Framework
3. If skillset exists, begin testing key RAI best practices on existing tools & projects
PROJECT: Information Security Incident Response Playbook Enhancement
Co-op would work along side the dynamic, cross-disciplinary information security team to identify active threats targeting Bank employees, customers, and infrastructure. They would document these threats, their vectors, tools and techniques, and develop playbooks for response. This will enable staff performing incident response to have a strong baseline to fall back on creating consistency and efficiency in our response to specific threats. Deliverables:
1. Create an Information Security Response Playbook.
PROJECT: Data Analyst- Data Lakehouse for 360 Degree View of Customer
The project aims to create a fully integrated data Lakehouse that consolidates various data sources to provide real-time customer insights, enabling data-driven decisions, improved customer experience, and enhanced operational efficiency. Deliverables:
1. The Data Analyst co-op student will work in conjunction with the Data Engineering co-op student to research and implement real time data analytic access from data stored in the Lakehouse and create reports and dashboards using this source.
2. Research, propose, and implement data governance and security procedures for the data Lakehouse.
PROJECT: Data Engineer - Data Lakehouse for 360 Degree View of Customer
The project aims to create a fully integrated data Lakehouse that consolidates various data sources to provide real-time customer insights, enabling data-driven decisions, improved customer experience, and enhanced operational efficiency. Deliverables:
1. The Data Engineering co-op student will work with the BSB Data Engineering team to research and design the data Lakehouse architecture and implement data ingestion and storage needs.
2. They will also work in collaboration with the BI Analyst Co-op student to design real time analytic access and propose/implement data governance and security procedures for the data Lakehouse.
PROJECT: Software Engineering - Automated Testing for Spark!
Spark!, the Bank’s Customer relationship management system is the largest application ever written at BSB. As it grows in complexity, it becomes harder for stakeholders to test whether a new piece of functionality accidentally breaks anything existing. Automated Regression Testing would help catch some of these potential bugs. Deliverable:
1. Implement one of the publicly available solutions for authoring automated testing, and author as many tests as possible in the time allotted.
SKILLS: Experience (courses, projects, or professionally) in one or more of the following: Software development, Automated testing/RPA, APIs, HTML and front-end development

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Perform responsibilities and duties for assigned department (supervisors should provide function specific tasks to be completed) where co-op student can apply classroom knowledge.
Complete assigned bank Project in full and on time and present to a panel of Bank leaders. Project must have defined objectives, learning goals and specific outcomes. Co-ops will complete 1–2-page executive summary of work/recommendation with a 10-minute oral presentation.
Adequate support and supervision will be provided, as well as regular check-ins to track progress toward goals and address challenges; integrating within the team and provide appropriate training on business systems, processes, and procedures.
Enhanced Co-op experience coordinated by the Talent & Diversity team to deliver a high-quality learning and work experience. Co-op is responsible for establishing a relationship & communication with the Bank Talent team. The Intern Coordinator works on establishing ongoing education, networking and community events, community service, teambuilding and celebration to have a full employment experience. The Talent team can also be the bank contact for future employment with the Bangor Savings Bank.
All BSB co-ops are paid. Individuals are compensated based on technical knowledge, level of job impact and current market rates for equivalent responsibilities.
Bangor Savings Bank will work with interns and their college or university to comply with requirements for academic credit or international work.
Participate in an exit interview to provide feedback to ensure continuous improvement to the Bank’s co-op program.
Co-op are temporary employment assignments generally 6 months (Jan – June or July – December) or an academic semester. This is not a benefits eligible position.
