SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST
Summary You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the Safety and Occupational Health Office of JOINT EXPED BASE LITTLE CREEK FT STORY. Responsibilities You will conduct formal on-site inspections and evaluations of facilities, industrial shops, and construction sites for compliance. You will serve as safety consultant to all levels of management of the serviced organization. You will advise management and workers on safety requirements and potential accident-causing situations and methods/techniques for preventing accidents. You will provide technical safety training to workplace supervisors and employees using a wide variety of materials, publications, exhibits and visual aids. You will assist with the implementation and maintenance of the installation’s Explosive Safety Program. This includes performing inspections, assessments, and investigations as well as providing training and information. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Developing local standards, guidelines, standard operating procedures and instructions to identify and eliminate or control safety hazards; 2) Analyzing mishap data (maintenance shops, maritime work, military training) to determine origin and develop techniques to prevent or reduce the possibility of mishaps; 3) Analyzing construction standards, practices and techniques, materials, equipment and utilities systems to determine compliance with building safety standards and to develop effective control of work and equipment hazards. Education In lieu of general/specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Successfully completed an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled. OR Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
