Summary You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH OFFICE of NAVAL BASE VENTURA COUNTY. Responsibilities You will advise management and workers on safety requirements and potential accident-causing situations and methods/techniques for preventing accidents. You will provide technical safety training to workplace supervisors and employees using a wide variety of materials, publications, exhibits, and visual aids. You will investigate workplaces, facilities, and operation mishaps by obtaining statements from witnesses or taking photographs of mishap scene. You will review plans and specifications for new construction, building alterations, and/or changes in installation equipment to ensure compliance with safety codes and standards. You will promote safety by making oral presentations at local safety meetings, posting of safety displays, or publishing mishap prevention articles. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications For GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Analyzing data on work operations, mishaps, and safety practices to prepare reports of findings that propose corrective measures for unsafe conditions and hazardous work practices; 2) Investigating mishaps, hazard reports, and unsafe or unhealthful working conditions to protect personnel and property; 3 Advising personnel on safety and occupational health measures to control or eliminate hazardous operating processes; 4) Conducting safety and occupational health inspections and surveys to evaluate effectiveness of unit safety program.
