Safety Clerk 1st Shift

Summary:
The Safety Clerk position is responsible for assisting with safety related compliance by keeping safety related documentation updated and organized, training others in safety topics, assisting with the facilitation of safety related tasks, and follow up with all safety related duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
* Responsible for all safety related training for the manufacturing department employees. This includes but not limited to monthly training topics, aerial lift, forklift, LOTO etc.
* Attend WestRock safety training as needed.
* Assist with or facilitate all aspects of the monthly Safety Committee Meeting including the PowerPoint presentation and any other related activities. Organize and communicate all key points from each meeting to plant employees.
* Update and review all job hazard analysis (JHA\u2019s), pre-task analysis documents, high risk task activities, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Ergonomic Assessments, and various updates related to WestRock Merchandising Displays Safety Program.
* Update and enter safety information in the Gensuite system. This includes but not limited to injury reporting, concerns reporting, near miss reporting etc.
* Assist with and/or head incident investigations and HOP events.
* Assist with compliance regarding safety management system (SMS) audits and internal audits.
* Data entry and maintenance of: training and development center system, divisional safety matrix, Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO), safety suggestions, electronic files, safety contest and games files, etc.
* Responsible for the completion weekly and monthly safety audits. To include but not limited to fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, etc.
* Assist and support the activities of the First Responder Program.
* Update and review that WestRock is in compliance with the electrical qualifications list, welding qualification list, lanyard/harness inspections, aerial lift inspections, ladder inspections, new and existing equipment safety checklist, confined space list, and AED.
* Update and revise safety specific spreadsheets.
* Participate in weekly and monthly safety conference calls.
* Establish and maintain a user friendly hard copy filing system for safety moving towards electronic filing.
* Maintain and update safety bulletin boards, stock safety supplies such as ear plugs, safety glasses etc.
* Environmental duties as assigned.
* Work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with company policies and procedures.
* Overtime is required.
* Serve as the back-up for the safety manager
* Perform other duties as assigned.

Productivity/OEE Competency - Evaluates one\u2019s effectiveness in producing expected quantities of work relative to standards and expectations, including effort, utilization of time, materials, and supplies. Indicators include the quantity and quality of work, the absence of rework and waste, utilization of resources, safe work behaviors, preplanning, and anticipating problems. Manufacturing employees will also be evaluated based on the following: Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) takes into account the various sub-components of the manufacturing process. Availability, viewed as a snapshot of the current production efficiency for a machine, line or cell. OEE = (A)vailabilty x (P)erformance x (Q)uality. Expressed another way: Related Machine Speed (P) x Crewed Hours (A)/ Good Sheets Out (Q). This section evaluates the employee\u2019s performance to maximize the OEE on his/her machine.
Attendance/Punctuality - Includes being present and ready for work as expected. Indicators are attendance records, number of times tardy, frequency of lateness returning from scheduled breaks or meal times, work readiness, and preparedness to begin work on time. (Three unexcused tardies equals one unexcused absence)
Procedures/Documentation/Reporting - Refers to the importance of following procedures, carefully and thoroughly documenting critical activities, including training, and to the accurate reporting of information. Indicators include the following established procedures, documenting essential processes, preparing accurate, timely, legible, and complete reports. Communicating as needed with others in the organization.
Coaching/Leading - Evaluates the employee\u2019s ability and skill to positively influence others to achieve Company goals and expectations, regardless of one\u2019s position or title. Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or GED minimum.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. May require the ability to write routine reports and correspondence. May require the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of and basic computer skills.
Other Qualifications
The Safety Clerk must have a good working knowledge of PowerPoint and Excel, great organizations skills, excellent time management skills, able to respond quickly to changing priorities, be professional and exhibit positive safety examples 100% of the time, able to effectively and with confidence present/train on various safety topics. Some travel may be required.
