Safety Coordinator - Irvine Commissary

JOB SUMMARY:
The Safety Coordinator plays an integral role in supporting the daily operational activities of our Commissary. Working alongside plant leadership, the Safety Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Plant Operations and is primarily responsible for the development and administration of plant-wide safety and occupational health and all security related functions pertaining to the facility. These functions include, but are not limited to, creating and maintaining a safe place to work, monitor of security officers, safeguarding company property, ensuring the verification and documentation of all persons and vehicles entering and exiting the facility, the formation and operation of safety committees, coordinating associate safety training programs and accident investigation procedures.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Responsible for our Safety Committee, and all Occupational Safety Programs and Policies.
• Perform routine walkthrough inspections of facilities to assure compliance with safety standards.
• Assure compliance with Cal OSHA.
• Assists in preparing documents and/or reports for safety audits and health inspections.
• Conducts safety-related training, and other store/company related trainings.
• Coordinates monthly safety meetings and organizes safety celebrations as needed.
• Assist HR in completing Refusal/Medical claim report for RMIS system.
• Conduct accident investigation process by investigating job-related injuries/incidents.
• Comply with insurance recommendations regarding reduction in workforce injury rates, oversee corrective actions, and implement preventive measures.
• Provide ongoing Safety Training to all employees on safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Ensure training materials are current and comply with OSHA requirements.
• Ensure training and documentation are maintained with applicable laws and regulations.
• Reduce worker compensation costs by coordinating safety inspections, performing accident & near miss investigations, and ensuring corrective action is taken.
• Point of Contact for Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures.
• On the Floor' presence on all shifts, checking and replacing PPE for all associates.
• Hands-on' liaison with maintenance as it relates to Safety of associates and equipment.
• Advise leadership on the status of investigations, any ongoing issues, and including additional safety training.
• Develop and implement record-keeping and investigation procedures for occupational injuries/illness.
• Fully responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining emergency preparedness.
• Monitor the removal of physical, biological, and chemical hazards perform area-specific hazardous analysis.
• Verify compliance with health and safety regulations and ensures all necessary records are maintained and prepared according to established guidelines.
• Partner with departmental leaders to address safety issues as they arise.
• Implement and manage the employee safety incentive program and coordinate monthly meetings.
• Ensure leadership is aware of associate restrictions due to work-related injury or illness and that employees are working within those restrictions.
• Support HR with New Hire Onboarding and Food Safety training for new employees and annual recurring training.
• Oversee screening of people entering the facility including visitor logs, GMP compliance, and health questionnaires.
• Review/inspect all sign-in forms, logs, and reports for the facility, including but not limited to, Visitor Logs, Entry Questionnaires, etc.
• Report and address any non-compliance issues from the daily safety and security audit walks.
• Review operating procedures and recommend improvements to enhance safety and security.
• Liaison with service providers to ensure the proper maintenance and functioning of the security systems. These include the CCTV cameras, door alarms, access controls, security alarm etc.
• Coordinate with HR to disseminate company badges, and key control process with HR for all locked key office and storage doors.
• Coordinate with HR to maintain and control the issuance of parking permits.
• Collaborate with AP/Safety Team from Support Center for safety investigations, and safety walks

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND CONDITIONS:
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 2 years combined experience in various areas of operations.
• Preferred Bilingual English/Spanish.
• Proficient in Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• Availability to work mid-shifts, weekends, and Holidays. Standard days and hours of work are Monday-Sunday.


EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Knowledgeable in OSHA &/or Cal-OSHA rules and procedures.
• Preferred training in Adult CPR, and Standard First Aid.
• Completion of Blood Borne Pathogen Training.
• Must have a strong working knowledge of federal and state safety laws/regulations.
• Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to identify safety concerns and perform job safety analysis.

• The employee must occasionally exert or lift up to 50 pounds carrying boxes of records and forms and frequently exert or lift moderate amounts of weight;
• Successful performance requires specific vision abilities that include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
• The employee will work in all areas of the facility including the Operations Departments, Offices, Common Areas, Outside Perimeter, Parking, and Yard. The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions, cold and heat, and working near moving mechanical parts.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production areas.
