Safety Coordinator - Thermoformed & Flexible Packaging (TFP)

What you’ll be doing:

Be the first resource for plant associates and pillar teams for SPS related concerns. Sets basic principles and targets for SPS in the plant – particularly after lessons learned on the model machine, with annual reviewReview and request support form division practitioner & divisional leadership team, when appropriate.Train, coach and educate plant level associates on improving zero based losses and using key performance indicators such as manufacturing OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), product quality, waste reduction, process performance, safety, and operating costs.Function as a member of the plant steering team ensuring team is on track and meeting all KPIsLiaison to SPS Practitioner to create agendas specific to where the plant needs additional support.Ensure appropriate personnel understand, and take actions based on metrics and tracking systems are updated.Utilize Continuous Improvement (CI) methodologies to drive a culture of learning, a dedication to ongoing improvement, and a focus on sustainable results.Ensure that pillar teams are working together and not in silos.Make sure losses are clearly established and calculated correctly each reporting period.  Should understand the make-up of every loss and the drivers behind each.  Responsible for sending requested charts into SPS Practitioner every reporting period.Should understand all pillars thoroughly in order to give guidance and support as needed.  Assist in selecting pillar owners and their teams.Maintain continuous communication with the Plant Manager and Regional Manager on the progress of SPS activities.  Should be able to recognize the gaps and communicate this information as well. Participate in all Pillar activities and throughout the entire engagementTrain, coach, mentor plant teams in SPS Tools & MethodologyShould attend in-house pillar meetings to offer guidance and support as needed.Must be a team player and willing to both give and receive help as neededWill coordinate any in-plant SPS review visits.Coordinate schedules and communications with SPS Divisional PractitionerDrive understanding and focus on both process steps and performance resultsHelp coach pillar leaders and teams to share learnings, leverage, and standardization internal and external to the plantSupport and participate in the plant rewards and recognition decisions as milestones are achieved Walk the production floor with plant manager and pillar team owners - participate in a 5S sweep sheet / audit, DTM audits, OPL reviews, and DTM checklist accuracyContinuously raise the bar on expectationsUtilizes Lean- Six Sigma, DMAIC, SWFL, SPS, TPM or other tools as needed to teach others on how to improve productivity, lower costs, reduce scrap and drive improvement in plants.


Safety

Responsible for regulatory assessments and efforts to maintain compliance with Federal, State, and local health and safety regulationsInterface daily with hourly and salary employees to promote safety programs and accident prevention.Conduct regular compliance audits and safety inspections of the facility and initiate corrective actions to eliminate hazards and promote a safe work environment Develop effective safety communications utilizing various multimedia methods Develop, implement and administrate health and safety plans and training plansTake a lead role in coaching, mentoring and training colleagues to improve safety performance and program effectivenessEstablish, facilitate and lead a plant safety committeeCollect, maintain and distribute plant safety documents to meet Sonoco reporting requirementsLead the investigation of accidents, determine causative factors, and implement corrective action to prevent reoccurrence Develop task-specific job safety analysis for work performed at the facilityOccasional travel may be required Review pillar teams and model machine team communication boards to ensure the boards are up-to-date, easily understood, standard, and show accurate measurements & resultsAct as the lesson between SPS Practitioner and Plant Team to implement

Position located at our Hickory, NC Facility and 100% onsite

Experience with implementing a performance system in another company is a plus.Coordinators are not limited to “overseeing” the process.  They can become fully involved in any or every pillar.  Involvement can include facilitating certain steps within a pillar, active team member, auditor, etc.

Compensation:  

The annual base salary range for this role is from $80,320 to $90,360.
