SUMMARY: + Supports the Manager, Bus System Safety and Reporting investigating and evaluating Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Federal Transportation Administration (FTA) /National Transit Database (NTD) recordability of Bus and Light Rail employee injuries and customer incidents, as well as Light Rail equipment incidents and bus collisions. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES : + Daily input of NJ TRANSIT (NJT) Bus and Light Rail employee injuries and customer incidents, as well as Light Rail equipment incidents and bus collisions into OSS incident management software. + Identifies OSHA recordability of employee injuries based on OSHA Recordkeeping Requirements and by working closely with NJT Operations Risk Management/Workers’ Compensation, Medical Services Department, and external medical providers. + Coordinate the follow-up on major injuries with location/senior management and reporting serious injuries to OSHA/PEOSH as required. + Develops forms, techniques, procedures to interface with Bus Operations, Light Rail Operations, Risk Management/Workers’ Compensation, Medical Services, and other departments to share injury, accident, and incident information to assist in investigations and to facilitate information flow. + Interacts and communicates with NJT Bus Garage Management, Service Supervision, OSS Bus and Light Rail Safety Officers to acquire all information to accurately report injuries and incidents into appropriate databases. + Creates and maintains standard periodic reports of NJT Bus and Light Rail employee injuries, and Light Rail Equipment and Customer Incidents. + Maintains OSHA 300, OSHA 301, OSHA 300A Log/Forms and report data to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and other State and Federal Agencies. + Serves as subject matter expert in OSHA Recordkeeping Requirements. + Reviews and analyzes injury data, advises OSS Management on trends, and makes recommendations to improve safety related to employee and customer injuries. + Provides backup support to Data Specialist Bus group members. + Provides backup support to Manager, Bus System Safety and Reporting on the preparation of reports to comply with regulatory and in-house reporting. + Completes projects as assigned by the Manager, Bus System Safety and Reporting EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS : + Bachelor’s Degree in Data/Network Management, Occupational Safety, Transportation Management, Business Administration, or related area; and three (3) years of experience in occupational safety and health, or data input/follow up. One year of closely related experience can be substituted for each year of education required. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: + Ability to multitask and work with various NJT departments and strong verbal and written communication skills are required. + Must be highly proficient in the use of software including MS Excel and Word. + Must be able to create and maintain databases and develop reports as required. + Knowledge of OSHA Recordkeeping Requirements and NTD reporting requirements is highly desirable. + Knowledge of NJT safety rules, policies and procedures and applicable Federal, State and Local safety regulations, including FTA, OSHA, and Public Employees Occupational Safety and Health (PEOSH) is desirable. + Familiarity with NJT Bus Operations knowledge and terminology is desirable.
