Safety Engineer
**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES / TASKS** + Perform all work safely and with the utmost concern for the safety of self and other employees. + Perform all work in compliance with environmental permits and regulations. + May be required to work overtime or varying hours. + Be at work when scheduled and maintain a good attendance record. + Work near/or in a demilitarization facility and/or military conventional weapons storage facility. + May be asked to assist other organizations with compliance or oversight policy development and implementation. + Develop, implement, and evaluate policy. + Under limited supervision, responsible for moderately complex technical work in a wide range of environmental, quality, safety and health disciplines to achieve compliance with ES&H standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements. + Compile compliance document and maintain compliance records + Perform basic systems safety tasks. + Knowledgeable in the application of Army Regulations to facility plans and procedures, specifically: + AR 385-10, The Army Safety Program + DA PAM 385-64, Ammunition and Explosive Safety Standards + DA PAM 385-65, Explosive and Chemical Site Plan Development and Submission + Maintain current knowledge of specific government agency requirements. + Exhibit knowledge and apply fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of their environmental specialty. + Independently determine and develop approaches to solutions. + Develop, write, implement, and maintain safety and health programs, systems, and procedures. + Monitor and prevent hazards and diseases in the work area. + Investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace. + Recommend improvements in processes, design, procedures, and operating equipment to minimize hazards. + Develop and conduct employee training, emergency preparedness, and assure the quality of + programs. + Maintain compliance and training records. + Provide regulatory interpretation and technical advice. + May administer an ES&H program on a small or medium-sized project. + Perform project and hazardous material inspections as needed. + Perform other duties as assigned. **REQUIREMENTS / SPECIFICATIONS** **Basic Qualifications:** + Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health or Industrial Hygiene, Environmental or demonstrated equivalent and 5 years related experience. Or, Associate degree in Safety, Health or Industrial Hygiene, Environmental or demonstrated equivalent and 9 years related experience. + Must be a U.S. Citizen or naturalized citizen able to obtain and maintain site access. + Must be computer literate in common software applications and able to operate general office equipment. + Must be 18 years of age or older. + Must be willing to work overtime, varying hours and/or rotating shifts. + Must be willing and able to work in an industrial environment that is in close proximity to and/or in a demilitarization facility. + Must be willing and able to work in an industrial environment that is in a demilitarization facility. **Minimum Qualifications:** + Must be a U.S. Citizen or naturalized citizen able to obtain and maintain site access. + Familiar with OSHA General Industry and Construction Standards. + Familiar with safety instrumentation and tools. + Possess strong organization skills with the ability to coordinate and prioritize projects. Able to adapt to changes as they occur. + Must be detail oriented and possess the ability to manage complex and varied projects. + Good communication skills to provide technical assistance, presentations, and/or training to office and field operations. + Good writing skills and working knowledge of common word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications. **Desired Qualifications:** + Field safety and health experience in chemical process, chemical agent demilitarization, construction or oil and gas industry. + Experience developing, implementing, and participating in health, safety, or related observation and engagement programs. + Experience documenting health and safety, or similar investigations. + Occupational Safety and Health Technologist, Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) Certification, Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) Certification, or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). + Knowledgeable of Safety and Health procedures as they apply to Demilitarization Systemization, Operations, and Closure. + Knowledge of industry inspection standards. **Licenses/Certifications:** Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle driver's license. **SECURITY / SURETY** This position is subject to the requirements of the Arms, Ammunition and Explosives Personnel Program (AA&EPP).
