The Department of Health, Division of Safety Inspection, is seeking an independent and motivated Safety Inspector to join our Pittsburgh Field Office. In this critical role, you will assess compliance with Life Safety Codes for federal certification and state licensure of healthcare facilities. DESCRIPTION OF WORK This position offers the candidate hands-on training to acquire the skills necessary for inspecting healthcare facilities to ensure compliance with the Life Safety Code in the commonwealth. As a Safety Inspector, you will play a crucial role in maintaining a safe environment for residents, patients, and staff across various facilities. Your responsibilities will include conducting thorough fire safety surveys in hospitals, nursing homes, intermediate care facilities for individuals with intellectual disabilities, ambulatory surgical centers, birthing centers, and other healthcare settings, ensuring adherence to the applicable Life Safety Code editions. After each survey, you will summarize your findings in an exit conference and assist the provider in developing a correction plan. You will also re-inspect facilities and complete reports to document compliance status for previously identified deficiencies. Your primary area of coverage will include Beaver, Allegheny, Washington, Greene, Westmoreland, Fayette, Cambria, Somerset, Blair, Bedford, Huntingdon, and Fulton counties.
