Job Description
Assists, plans, and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), and Department of Transportation (DOT). Advises the Safety Director on safety compliance concerns and preventative actions. Plans and implements training for employees on worksite safety practices. Maintains safety files and records. Performs safety surveys and inspections. Prepares written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventive measures and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented. Conducts post-accident investigations and prepares reports identifying possible causes and hazards. Accompanies personnel to job sites to perform drug tests. Assists in the development, evaluation, and upgrading of safety programs. Manages inspection of job sites, equipment, and vehicles to ensure safe working conditions.
ResponsibilitiesAssist in planning and implementing safety policies and procedures.Ensure compliance with OSHA, MSHA, and DOT regulations.Advise Safety Director on safety compliance concerns and preventative actions.Plan and implement training for employees on worksite safety practices.Maintain safety files and records.Perform safety surveys and inspections.Prepare written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventive measures.Follow up to ensure safety measures have been implemented.Conduct post-accident investigations and prepare reports identifying possible causes and hazards.Accompany personnel to job sites to perform drug tests.Assist in the development, evaluation, and upgrading of safety programs.Manage inspection of job sites, equipment, and vehicles to ensure safe working conditions.Essential SkillsAt least 3 years of safety-related experience in the construction industry.Experience with OSHA, First Aid/CPR, Confined Spaces, DOT, and/or Excavation safety.Experience writing detailed reports and procedures and documenting investigations.Experience presenting to and training small groups on safety procedures and regulations.Ability to effectively respond to questions from groups, managers, and customers.Excellent computer and communication skills.Additional Skills & QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in an environmental and/or occupational health and safety related field preferred.Certified Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or ability to obtain within a year preferred.Work Environment
Work in Des Moines at a data center location. Some travel may be required a few days out of the month within a two-hour radius. Work schedule is Monday to Friday, 10-hour days. Dress code includes jeans, work boots, and work-appropriate t-shirt or sweatshirt. High visibility vest, glasses, hard hat, gloves, and other necessary equipment will be provided on-site.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $100000.00
