SUMMARY:
+ Supports the Senior Manager, Safety -Bus in all bus accident/incident investigations, facility inspections and audit activities and responsibilities to ensure compliance with regulatory safety requirements.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
+ Performs monthly inspections and annual audits of Bus Operations facilities including Equipment, Tools, Work Practices and Chemicals/Hazardous Substances use, to ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration/Public Occupational Safety and Health OSHA/PEOSH industrial and environmental regulations, NJ TRANSIT Bus Safety programs, procedures and rules. Recommends corrective actions to location management to ensure compliance.
+ Performs Bus Operations route/line and bus stop inspections and evaluations throughout the states of NJ, PA, and NY to support Bus Operations and municipalities requests.
+ Investigates reports of safety related defects/hazards, utilizing the Hazard Identification/Resolution Process; Recommend corrective actions to Bus Management as required.
+ Prepares annual summaries of OSHA recordable employee occupational injuries and illnesses for required posting at field locations. Verifies accuracy of data and submits annual summary reports to OSS Safety Risk Management Group for Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) required reporting.
+ Assists and reviews all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requested for purchase by bus Operations management and approved by NJ TRANSIT Purchasing.
+ Conducts regulatory safety and health training to Bus Operations employees.
+ Responds to Safety Emergencies as required 24/7.
+ Completes all safety related projects as assigned by the Manager, Safety - Bus and Supervisor, Safety – Bus.
+ Participates in NJ TRANSIT’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activities including field observations during events that impact bus service.
+ Completes any other safety related projects as assigned by the Sr. Manager Safety – Bus.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS :
+ Bachelors’ degree in Safety Science or related area and two (2) years of regulatory training and/or fleet safety management experience. One year of closely related experience can be substituted for each year of education required.
+ OSHA 30-Hr. General Industry Training – Desirable
+ Transit Safety and Security Program (TSSP) – Desirable
+ Incident Command System Training (ICS) - Desirable
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
+ Working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, OSHA/PEOSH, FTA and FMCSA regulations.
+ Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required.
+ Must be able to respond to safety emergencies at all times of the day/evening 24/7.
