Safety Officer

**UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital is hiring a part-time Safety Officer to support the Safety & Security team!**
The incumbent will work three 8-hour shifts per week from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Conduct searches, maintain paperwork/property, and handle patient belongings per policy.
+ Meet mandatory education and competency requirements, including age-specific competencies.
+ Perform physical restraint techniques to control violent patients and ensure safety.
+ Provide relief coverage for safety systems clerks and parking lot attendants.
+ Conduct safety, security, and fire safety patrols; document/report unsafe conditions and security violations.
+ Assist clinical staff with uncooperative patients and respond to calls for assistance professionally.
+ Perform assignments as directed by managers, including daily reviews of communications.
+ Assist during emergencies and crises; collaborate with law enforcement and medical authorities.
+ Maintain professionalism, proper dress, radio communication, and service excellence.
+ Complete mandatory and recommended training programs.
+ Provide escort services for patients, staff, and visitors.
+ Investigate incidents such as theft, suspicious activity, vandalism, and safety issues.
+ Test alarm systems and equipment as assigned.
+ High school diploma or equivalent.
+ 1 year experience in safety, security or related healthcare field preferred.
+ Equivalent experience considered.
+ May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored or may transport medications when they transport patients.
+ Transportation of medication is limited from one department to another. **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:** Act 235 with Firearms OR Act 235 without Firearms - All officers hired without a valid Act 235 must complete the 235 certification within their first 6 months of hire or placement and have process completed within 9 months of hire. Must meet audio and visual standards outlined in Act 235 at time of hire. Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation certification required within 30 days of hire. Successfully pass UPMC Physical Fitness Standard prior to hire.
