SUMMARY
The primary responsibility of the Protective Security Officer is to maintain peace and good order while secondarily serving as a first responder to emergency situations involving the threat or brandishing of weapons and/or active violence that may occur at Rochester General Hospital. Principally operating from a fixed post, the Officer will make periodic tours to secure areas, provide customer service, mitigate sudden behavioral occurrences, deter crimes, and check for irregularities. May enforce as required by circumstances, proprietary regulations pertaining to personnel, visitors, and premises. Minimally assist with the functions of existing safety and security personnel while primarily providing over watch to promote the protection of staff and property from theft or damage, or persons from hazards or interference, including the potential for violence in the workplace.

Associate's degree in criminal justice field or an equivalent combination of three (3) years' experience in the public safety field; hospital security field; military police field, correction officer field and/or law enforcementValid NYS Driver’s licenseValid NYS Pistol permitValid NYS Security Guard Armed license or is an active police officer (police officer status will be verified at the time of hire and annually).RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain a highly visible command presence and act as a visual deterrent to active aggression.Maintain constant vigilance and situational awareness with the ability to rapidly respond to a weapons threat or active shooter situation in the Emergency Department or immediate proximity.Properly handles routine and emergency incidents detrimental to the security and safety of the facility, patients, staff and employees.Monitors access to Rochester Regional Health facilities through the admittance process; assists visitors with a legitimate need to gain entry to the facility; observes screening of patients, visitors and client employees to ensure they are conducted in a proficient manner in order to expedite their admittance to the facility, as needed and when prescribed.EDUCATION:

It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components.
