Job Description

In a time of unprecedented expansion, we are seeking a Safety Specialist to support safety strategies and advance safety culture throughout our Garland, Utah distribution center. In this role, you will support the ongoing management, planning and implementation of a robust, compliant and consistently applied safety program. The position also requires providing emergency response to associates when necessary. The ideal candidate has knowledge of government regulations concerning health, safety and the environment. Applicants also should possess demonstrated project management skills. 

This is a full-time position at our Garland, UT location.  

A day in the office looks like this:  

Documents safety inspections, citing dangerous areas/procedures and recommending corrective action  Provides recommendations for correcting noncompliance issues  Provides emergency response to employees as needed  Participates in and documents information for the investigation of accidents and injuries, then submits data to regulatory agencies as required  May train employees in the safety aspects of machine operations  Incorporates and maintains safety observances including but not limited to using all PPE by employees, ensuring guards and safety features are working, and promoting good safety practices  Assists with development of training materials and coordinates and facilitates employee training as necessary  Create/customize detailed safety and environmental programs/procedures to meet site-specific environment as needed  Assists the Health, Safety and Security Manager in safety and environmental projects, including the development of work plans  Assists with safety training programs aimed at reducing exposure to workplace hazards and compliance with applicable standards  Supports location assessments (e.g., audits, inspections, accident investigations, etc.) with site management; recommends and assists in the execution of corrective actions  Trains auditors as needed  

Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent  Minimum of 2 years of safety experience in industrial or plant facility  4+ years of safety experience in industrial or plant facility preferred  Strong service orientation  Strong interpersonal/communication skills  Must be able to work independently, with minimal direction   Problem-solving/opportunity identification  Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods  Must be able to bend, stretch, push, pull and move with up to 50 pounds of force  Must be able to wear proper PPE to protect against exposure to chemical and physical hazards  Must be able to perform repetitive tasks and possess manual dexterity  Must be available during nonstandard working hours as required
