Description SUMMARY- The Safety Specialist role provides safety, health, and environmental support to the organization to ensure a safe work environment across our metal fabrication, welding, powder coating, wood fabrication and staining, and assembly processes. The role involves: identifying hazards, implementing safety protocols, supporting employee-led safety teams, and ensuring compliance with all safety regulations while fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement. This role works closely with Operations and Engineering leaders, Human Resources, and employees to provide safety training, information, and guidance. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: + Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs that ensure compliance with OSHA, state, and local safety regulations. + Promote safe work practices and working conditions. + Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses, and department audits of all areas to assist in identifying, controlling, and eliminating safety and health hazards. + Work closely with the engineering and maintenance teams regarding safety, health, and ergonomic needs for team members and the business. + Lead investigations into accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions to determine root causes, and develop and implement corrective measures to prevent future incidents. + Manage safety incident reporting database and reporting. + Perform regular safety audits of manufacturing processes and machinery, ensuring that proper guarding, ventilation, and personal protective equipment (PPE) are in place and being used effectively. + Ensure that the organization adheres to all relevant federal, state, and local safety regulations, including those specific to manufacturing processes involving hazardous materials, flammable chemicals, and high-risk operations like welding. + Manage and coordinate activities of the safety team, including monthly meetings, department audits, safety corrective action items, and employee engagement. + Develop and oversee emergency response procedures, including evacuation plans, fire safety drills, and first aid preparedness, tailored to the specific risks of the furniture manufacturing processes. + Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for safety improvements in production processes and implement best practices. + Set up annual testing and review of first responder, AED and CPR training as well as crane and industrial power/forklift training and certifications. + Develop and deliver safety training for new employees and when new or updated requirements are put into place. + Manage and maintain safety equipment, including ensuring proper fit and usage of PPE. + Perform other duties as assigned. Position Requirements + Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Industrial Engineering, or related field, or equivalent training, education and experience. + Minimum of 3-5 years of safety experience in a manufacturing environment. + Experience conducting safety training, incident investigations, risk assessments, safety audits, and ergonomic assessments. + OSHA 30-Hour Certification required. + CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or ASP (Associate Safety Professional) certification preferred. + First Aid/CPR certification. + Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safety standards related to metalworking, welding, woodworking, and hazardous materials. + Knowledge of machine guarding, industrial ventilation, chemical safety, and PPE requirements. + Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effectively training and engaging employees at all levels. + Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. + Detail-oriented with a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
