Job Title: Safety Specialist

Job Description

Reports to the Corporate Safety Director. Responsible for educating field personnel on correct safety procedures and ensuring safety policies are followed.

ResponsibilitiesEnsure that the intent of the company's policies, procedures, and quality standards is followed.Conduct site safety audits to recognize and correct unsafe conditions and behaviors.Prescribe corrective actions and measures for items repeatedly showing up in audits.Develop training sessions for audit items.Investigate all incidents and generate proper reports. Aid in accident/incident investigation as needed.Create, conduct, and document Tool Box Talks.Perform task training as planned and needed.Ensure and maintain all required signage is properly posted.Stop work to remedy serious or life-threatening safety deficiencies, violations, or unsafe practices.Complete and file disciplinary actions with documentation.Provide leadership with a focus on safe work practices and pre-task planning.Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating effectively with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.Assist in the planning and implementation of all project safety needs.Actively participate in operational planning to eliminate hazards.Monitor safety portion of OPS Plans and work with the foreman to correct any deviations.Investigate and procure new task-specific safety systems/equipment and educate crews and superintendents as needed.Conduct on-site inspections to control hazardous working conditions or unsafe employee activities through teaching and coaching.Reward and recognize field personnel for taking outstanding safety initiatives.Attend and actively participate in daily morning huddles with job crews.Attend daily end-of-shift (DEOS) meetings when possible.Educate foremen on proper daily work plans/JHA procedures and hold them accountable.Assist with and lead weekly safety meetings.Continue education regarding safety through seminars, meetings, and higher education.Network and remain current on safety topics and relevant issues within the construction industry.Perform additional duties as directed by supervisors.Essential SkillsFour-year occupational safety/health degree or equivalent combination of training and related experience.0-2+ years of experience Proficiency with OSHA standards.Knowledge of construction industry practices, risk management, and field operations.Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures.Strong management, leadership, and interpersonal skills.Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.Additional Skills & QualificationsBachelor's degree in safety with an emphasis in construction.0-5 years of experience in construction safety.Experience with general contractor (GC) type construction or vertical construction.Work Environment

The company is an electrical contractor with 500 union employees and 100 office non-union employees. The initial project will be located in Illinois for 8 months (5 days a week) on a Greenfield ground mount solar project, focusing on electrical installation including cabling and wiring. Post project, the role may require traveling to other sites or relocating to Wisconsin full-time. The candidate will receive direction from and report to the Safety Manager based in Wisconsin. The role involves working closely with the Superintendent and other on-site personnel. The company emphasizes project variation, including solar, commercial, industrial, healthcare, biotech, and school projects. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $75000.00
