Safety Specialist
Job Title: Safety Supervisor - Electric Power and Mechanical Contractor

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Safety Supervisor to join our team. The successful candidate will assist in planning, implementing, and supervising all field projects related to safety programs and policies. The ideal candidate will exposure in overhead distribution, transmission, or substation work and display exceptional leadership and communication skills to foster a high level of cultural safety awareness throughout the organization.

ResponsibilitiesProvide unwavering leadership for safety within the organization.Work to control and eliminate hazards in the working environment.Support field crews in all aspects of safety and employee engagement.Support the company's safety goals and objectives.Train field personnel in OSHA and company policies and procedures.Conduct new employee orientation and training programs for field employees.Participate with project management and field crews in pre-planning job site safety activities.Enforce safety policies and facilitate employee disciplinary actions as necessary.Conduct and document site safety inspections to ensure compliance with safety and health programs.Identify unsafe working conditions and initiate corrective actions.Complete detailed safety audit reports and distribute them to appropriate parties.Conduct timely incident investigations and root cause accident investigations as needed.File all appropriate reports and communicate with management as needed.Maintain a working knowledge of the latest developments in construction industry safety.Develop and implement comprehensive safety training and education programs.Act as an OSHA liaison to outside parties, including insurance representatives.Coordinate and facilitate regulatory (OSHA) inspections, including preparation of written appeals in response to citations.Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.Essential SkillsBS Degree in occupational safety/health or four-year equivalent industry experience.CPR/First Aid/AED Trainer certification.OSHA 500 Construction Trainer certification and CUSP (Certified Utility Safety Professional) desired but not mandatory.One to five years of electric power construction or industrial safety experience.Strong interest in the safety field.Working knowledge and ability to enforce all federal, state, local, and company safety regulations.Knowledge of OSHA 1926.269 Subpart V Electrical Power Transmission & Distribution desired.Ability to recognize unsafe or hazardous working conditions and implement corrective measures as necessary.Strong interpersonal and group presentation skills.Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in overhead transmission, distribution, and substation work.Familiarity with large projects involving cranes and critical lifts.Work Environment

This role involves 80% field construction site work and 20% office environment. Safety-related tasks will be performed in all weather conditions. While in the office, work is primarily from a sitting position with a computer, involving repetitive typing and computer use. Regular bending, twisting, and light lifting are common. The role requires the ability to climb up and down ladders and steps, work on uneven ground, and handle muddy, slippery, and icy conditions. Driving short, medium, and long distances is necessary, with some overnight stays required throughout the state. Extended or non-standard hours may be required. The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $60.00
