Job Title: Safety Specialist

Job Description

Reports to the Corporate Safety Director. Responsible for educating field personnel on correct safety procedures and ensuring safety policies are followed.

ResponsibilitiesEnsure that the intent of policies, procedures, and quality standards is followed.Conduct site safety audits to recognize and correct unsafe conditions and behaviors; prescribe corrective actions and measures for recurring issues; develop training sessions for frequent audit items.Investigate all incidents and generate proper reports. Aid in accident/incident investigation as needed.Create, conduct, and document Tool Box Talks.Plan and conduct task training as needed.Ensure and maintain all required signage is properly posted.Stop work to remedy serious or life-threatening safety deficiencies, violations, or unsafe practices. Complete and file disciplinary actions with documentation.Provide leadership with a focus on safe work practices and pre-task planning.Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that fosters cooperation with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.Assist in planning and implementing all project safety needs.Participate in operational planning to eliminate hazards.Monitor safety aspects of OPS Plans and collaborate with foremen to ensure compliance.Investigate and procure new task-specific safety systems/equipment and educate crews and superintendents as needed.Conduct on-site inspections and control hazardous working conditions or unsafe employee activities through teaching and coaching.Reward and recognize field personnel for outstanding safety initiatives.Attend and actively participate in daily morning huddles with job crews and daily end-of-shift meetings when possible.Educate foremen on proper daily work plans/JHA procedures and hold them accountable.Assist with or lead the weekly safety meeting.Continue education regarding safety through seminars, meetings, and higher education experiences.Network, communicate, and stay current on safety topics and relevant issues in the construction industry.Perform additional duties as directed by supervisors.Essential SkillsConstruction safety experienceBachelor's degree in Occupational Safety/Health or equivalent combination of training and related experienceAdditional Skills & QualificationsPreferred: Bachelor's in Safety with an emphasis in construction and 1-5 years of experience.Ideally: Safety degree with strong internship experience in any type of safety experience (manufacturing experience is acceptable).Work Environment

Work for a reputable electrical contractor with 500 union employees and 100 office non-union employees. Initial assignment will be on-site for a project in Illinois for 8 months (5 days a week) on a Greenfield ground mount solar project. Responsibilities will include overseeing the electrical installation (cabling and wiring), and assisting with transformers and inverters. Following this project, the role will involve traveling to other sites or working full-time in Wisconsin, where most projects are located. Work will involve large projects in areas such as Edgerton, Wisconsin Dells, Portage, and Milwaukee. Collaboration with superintendents and safety managers is essential. The position offers project variation, a good work-life balance, and the opportunity to work on solar, commercial, industrial, healthcare, biotech, and school projects.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $36.00/hr.
